You were a little nervous to see Penny again, even though she was a really nice lady who cared a lot about you. She had been so ashamed when Alex had cheated on you, and blamed herself.
"Alex?"
"Yeah, love?" He's playing on his guitar, strumming Mardy Bum slowly.
"Does your Mum, know..that we are back together?" you ask awkwardly.
He looks up from strumming and smiles fondly at you.
"Yeah, course she does" he says, almost whispering.
"Okay, I'm just kinda nervous," you admit, biting your short nails.
"Don't be, she loves you" he says, looking down at his guitar to start strumming again.
You go to get changed into an old t-shirt and some ripped jeans.
When you come out from the bedroom Alex is still playing his guitar. This time, he's playing an unfamiliar tune.
"Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up," he sings gently, whilst playing a fast tune on his guitar.
"Never heard that one before," you say, sitting beside him.
"Yeah, I'm just messing about with chords," he says, not taking his eyes off his guitar.
"A song for the next album?" you ask jokingly. He rolls his eyes, with a smirk on his face.
"Let's see how the tour goes first," he smiles. He starts singing again,
"You're at a.." he sings, changing the chords to his guitar, "loss, just because, it wasn't all that you thought.." he stops singing with a concentrated face. "It wasn't all that you thought it'd be.." he sings, before shaking his head at himself. "Ah ha!" he shouts, like a scientist who had just done a successful experiment. "You're at a loss, just because, it wasn't all that you thought it was" he sings, with a massive smile on his face. "Yeah, that was good," he says to himself. You check the clock on your phone, it was 2:45.
"Al, your Mum will be over soon" you say. He looks annoyed that you've interrupted his playing.
"Yeah yeah, alright" he says irritably.
"The house it a fucking mess," you nag.
"Okay, fucking hell give me a break," he whines. He picks up some old wrappers that litter the floor, and puts them in the bin in the kitchen. You join in, and pick up some old pizza box on the coffee table.
Before you know it, there's a knock at the door. Your heart starts racing and you don't really know why. Al sees you getting upset and gives you a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Hey, don't worry okay?" he says quietly and calmly. You nod and he answers the door.
