Leo's POV

"Mr. Renc is ready to see you now." A tall
Leggy blonde woman tells me. I don't know her name nor do I wish to know since she's going to be gone faster than the one before her. My father keeps changing receptionists like clothes probably because he ends up sleeping with all of them.

I try to stay away from him as much as possible. I spent many years disconnecting myself from his business, building an empire for myself. I've always been good at math and people. I made most of my money in stocks and by most I mean millions, my father has no control over New York so that seemed like the best place to start.

My business far away from my father's clutches mostly has to do with the production and distribution of many major brands and I also own hotels, oil, company shares, the works.

"What do you want?" I growl as I enter his office. "Hello son." He gives me a fake smile.

Pheonix Renc is one of the most dreaded men in the underworld. He's not just known for being ruthless, he has a craving for bloodlust like a madman. I am his one and only son.

I hate my father and all he stands for. Anyone who crosses him must pay, even if it means crossing over to hell. I am his right hand. At least that's how he wants it to be. Born and bred to take over the family business. That's why I started my own business to get away from him but unfortunately he won't let me go just yet.

Prick.

I'm twenty-five years old but his hellish reign looms over me like a cloud. I'm living in a glorified jail, just waiting to get away. The only reason I even talk to him is because being his son means that everyone who was ever hurt by my father now hates me. They are parched and the only satisfaction they'll get is from my blood. So, if this life is not going to leave me alone, I might as well stick with him.

You know keep him close for my own benefit.

But let's make one thing clear. I never have and I never will take over his 'business'.

"Son? Don't you remember your son died quite many years ago. Besides next time try opening with I'm sorry that my enemies tried to beat you up last month." I scoff at him.

"Well let's not get into that, just yet. The reason I called you is because I have a job for you." He says calmly but something tells me it's going to hit me like a storm. Phoenix keeps my secret for a price. He doesn't let anyone know I'm his son and in return I have to do a few odd jobs for him.

"A business associate crossed me and I need to you to get me leverage to hold against him. Give him the old shakedown." He smiles.

"And how do you suppose I do that?"

"Well son I have already thought of that, you need to pick somebody up for me." He gets off his seat and walks up to me.

"What do you mean 'Pick?" I ask.

"I need you to keep this person against their will." He laughs.

"You mean kidnapping!" I yell.

"Technically yes".

"Well my answer is no." This is too much I want nothing to do with him, let alone kidnap someone for him.

"I don't have my usual person who does this available right now on the account that he's dead. You don't have to do much, just supervise the whole thing, a few of my men will join you."

"Not doing it." I growl coming up to his face.

Typical. He always gets someone else to do his dirty work. Vicious son of a bitch.

Sorry grandma.

"You can't resort to kidnapping an innocent person and I'm not going to stand by it." I add anger radiating in my body.

"Lancaster industries is blooming. It would be a shame to see it crumble Leo." How easy it is for him to threaten his own blood. I need the 411 on his enemies, his intel had always proven useful especially since they have it out for me because of him. Unfortunately, this is how Phoenix always successfully manages to twist my arm...for now

I have much bigger plans for my father.

"Come on it's not really kidnapping. I just need the bastard who crossed me to pay up." He adds. I start pacing up and down, running my fingers through my hair.

"So ask someone else, I have a business to run."

"Although it hurts that you don't want to follow in my footsteps, you are my son and maybe if you do this, you'll see that my work isn't so bad, plus I can't trust anyone else." He smirks.

Don't do it.

'Be better than this' my mother's voice rings in my head. I bang my fist on his desk and force my eyes shut. "Fine." I mutter. He walks up to me and hands me a chit. "This is the person, Get the work done and don't make a mess." I grunt in response unable to look him the eye and walk out of his office, Crushing the piece of paper in my hands.

I can't believe what I've agreed to. Rage starts burning in my eyes as I open the paper, finally revealing the person's name.

'Emmeline Harrington'
