Emma's PoV

A figure started to approach the door from the corner of a small staircase. It was dark inside and I couldn't make out the person or the frame, which only seemed to add to the mystery. As the person approached us the figure started to get a bit clear.

I was mentally preparing myself for meeting Meredith. I mean what was I going to say.

'Hi, I'm Emma.  There's a sociopath after my life and somehow it all connects to you and my boyfriend, who I think was your ex boyfriend. So come on down we'll make a great big family'

Ah- no way Jose

Obviously this would end only in one way. Meredith chasing me away with a frying pan and Carter laughing his ass off. From the corner of my eye I could see Carter show a trace of nervousness.

Now remember Carter here has the world record of standing like a mannequin, so this thing that he's doing, which is currently freaking me out, is a big deal for him.

The figure was getting nearer and clearer, a little ray of sunshine started falling on the figure and slowly the silhouette of a person was the only thing I could see.

I was shocked beyond belief. This is Meredith. Oh my god! What happened to her that she ended up looking like this. I was perplexed beyond understanding.

Time really takes a toll on people because ladies and gentleman Meredith was an old gray haired man. That's right! Ya heard me. A man. A freaking sixtyish or so looking man.

"Hello" Carter greets because I was too busy gawking at the older and more manly version of what was supposed to be Meredith.

"Hello" the old man says back.

"Sorry to disturb sir, my name is Carter, this is Emma—" Carter points at me.

"But we are actually looking for Meredith—" Carter tries to look around the old man. And I do too, maybe this man is hiding Meredith. Maybe he is the villain of this story!

"Is she your granddaughter by any chance" Carter adds after clearing his throat. The old man falls into bouts of laughter and Carter and I join him in awkwardness.

Nope normal crinkly mad old man

"Hahahahaha" The old man chuckles

"Hahahahaha" Carter chuckles

"Hahahhahahahaha!" I chuckle

"Is she here?" I ask in the most squeakiest voice.

"If she is then it's news to me" the old man started laughing again.

"Hahahahaha" The old man chuckles

"Hahahahaha" Carter chuckles

Hahahahahahahaha!" I chuckle

"So can we meet her?" I say in a squeakier voice.

"Come on in kids" the old man opens the screen door and let's us in. The house is dusty and musty smelling. It looks like he lives here all alone and I have this nagging feeling telling me that we haven't come to the right place.

"I'm sorry, what is your name sir?" I ask realising I don't even know the man's name.

"I'm Gavin Mitchell" he extends his hand and takes mine in a firm handshake. I walk ahead and my eyes fall on the pictures in frames. They all have Gavin and another woman laughing happily in every single one of them.

The woman has white hair and is old much like Gavin himself. "Who is this?" Carter asks noticing the woman in the picture.

"That is Meredith" both Carter and I move our necks so fast, I think they snapped and we pretty much looked like owls.
