That same sun-kissed auburn hair, those same dark eyes and pale skin, that same face that was indented in my memory and I could recognise anywhere.

No...It can't be

"Meredith?"

"What the hell" Carter whipped his neck around to look at—and I cannot even believe I'm saying this right now, Meredith.

What the flibbitijibbitiflibbit

"What the fuck?" Leo says pursing his lips, but I don't know if it's because Carter tried to punch him literally two seconds ago or because he now knows that we know about Meredith.

I wonder if he knows that we know he knows what he knows seeing that now he knows we know he knows.

Ladies and gentlemen my brain

"You—" my throat goes dry. "You are—" come on just say it. "You are Mer...Meredith" my voice comes out raspy and in a whisper.

Meredith doesn't respond but instead keeps staring back at me. This isn't happening, not like this. I mean, I was supposed to tell her that I'll help her and that I'll be there for her but right now she just looks scared, but of me? Why? Everyone knows I'm as dangerous as a chipmunk.

"Who told you" Leo's heavy voice speaks out loud but it's all a blur to me. The silence in the air is deafening. And Meredith and I both haven't stopped staring at each other.

"Nobody needed to tell us, Emma is smart enough to figure it out herself" Carter replies instead, venom pouring out in each word for Leo.

"Emma I'll explain everything—" I ignore Leo and make a beeline for Meredith. She looks taken aback but she doesn't move an inch from her spot. Out of nowhere and with no aid from my own mind, I hold her hands in mine.

"Are you okay? Were you okay? We searched for you but you are like a freaking ghost" I say out hastily.

Oh shit did I say out loud that she is like a ghost. Oh double shit did I just say that to her face, to a person who's been missing. It's like I'm missing sensitivity, aren't I?

Meredith looks at Leo, confusion clear as day in her eyes and then slowly she turns back to face me. For what seemed like an eternity Meredith looks at a spot on my face and I'm suddenly overcome with certain nervousness.

Are my armpits smelling?...oh bloody hell why do I have to sweat so profusely. It's like I've been running in a sweater, on a 90 degree sunny day, with a rabid dog on my tail. Oh my god I hope my teeth don't have any food stuck in between them or maybe my lipstick is all—

"Thank you" she says cutting my mind rambling and a slight almost unnoticeable smile appears on her lips. Her voice is not very heavy and actually a little squeaky but not in an annoying way.

Once again out of nowhere I pull Meredith in for a forced hug. "Oh thank god" I whisper feeling genuinely relieved that she is here and fine and healthy looking.

"What the actual fuck?" I hear Leo curse and then the ding of the elevator once again. "Well what do we have here?" Bennett's smug voice fills the deafening silence in the air.

"Umm...I'm sorry" I pull back and apologise for abruptly taking Meredith in an embrace. "It's alright. You are Emma right? Leo's Emma. Leo has told me so much about you"

Leo

LEO

LEO!!!

I look at Leo frozen in my place. His face is all sorts of confusion under his usual mask of hoodedness, showing his closed off personality. My eyes flicker to Carter who looks livid beyond belief. In the moment I know I have to speak to Carter before I speak to Leo.
