Two Thousand Twenty is when it started. When the world entered an apocalyptic state. Where if you kissed someone on the lips who wasn't your soulmate, that person would die. Some said it was a punishment from god, as a way to keep the cheaters and horrible people in line. But others thought it was the work of the devil.
You didn't know what to think. You didn't side with the rumors spreading, because you were too focused on trying to never kiss anyone again.
Because you accidentally killed someone who wasn't your soulmate, when he kissed you. The most complicated thing about this whole thing was how do you know who your soulmate is? Typically you don't. And only on rare occasions do people get a tingling sensation or a mark that appears on their body. But it was one in a million. And even then, you had to be in close proximity of your soulmate to receive the physical jolts. You didn't personally know anyone like this, but it did happen. Rarely though.
It was much easier to know if you had kissed your soulmate or not because they would either die if they weren't of live it they were. Simple as that. One thing that made it easier, was that your soulmate had lived in the same country as you, or even town. They might've been your neighbors, but you wouldn't know until you kissed them.
The governments across the different countries had set out a national emergency and within the year, they would start putting people in camps of some sort to make it easier for people to find their soulmates, because even when your soulmate lived in the same country as you people were having trouble spotting them. Lots of testing was being done as well, but none of the research was successful and people were still dying daily.
You wished it was much more simple than find your soulmate or die, it was a sick twisted game. I guess the only way to keep people alive was to not kiss anymore. But people wanted to be intimate, and for that to happen kissing was a big part of it.
You now constantly lived in fear, staying focused on school rather than silly crushes that could possibly develop into something more. Like you finding your soulmate; which was a good thing, or attending a burial service of the boy you just killed because he wasn't yours to kiss.
School and studying was all you needed to focus on. But the more and more that carried on, the more you realized you wanted to be normal and fall in love with who you wanted; like in all of those romantic sitcoms.
But you couldn't be normal anymore.
Nobody could.

"I shouldn't have done that!" You gasped, a hand rushing to your lips where you froze.
There a tall boy stood in front of you. His eyes captivating your own as you continued to panic. "I'm so sorry! I-I-" his lips found yours again and you found yourself not kissing back, out of shock of what he just did.
His lips were soft, cushion like, and they kept you wanting more and more from him.
Pulling away you stared up at the boy in the yellow puffy jacket, who was just staring at you with a slight blush and a cozy looking smile.
"Did you feel it?" Feel what?
You frowned and stared at him questionably. "W-What're you talking about?" You asked, clearly confused at his own question.
"You're my soulmate" Hueningkai said boldly, not even seeming to question himself previously before speaking. It was straight to the point. And he sounded so sure of it.
And then you felt it.
Tingles rushing through your body.
A smile formed on your face as you stared up at him.
He was your soulmate.
