Unexpected (Vampire Diaries Fanfic)

Barbeque

This morning after we woke up me and Elena went over to the grill for breakfast. We were looking over the Petrova book that Damon handed us yesterday.

We were sitting alone and out of nowhere Damon appeared and made Elena and me jump. "Seriously Damon!" I growled looking at my coffee that was now spilled on my shirt. He grinned "Sooo jumpy" he said sitting down in one of the empty chairs.

"What do you want?' Elena said to him equally annoyed. "So this is where you spend your time when your not stabbing me in the back" he said to her. 

"If I recall Vanessa stabbed you in the back" I joked. "Funny" he replied. "I tricked you into not lying to me, that's not backstabbing, that's using your own methods against you" she said putting the book away.

"What don't leave on my account" he said to us. "Damon I want nothing to do with you anymore" she said putting cash on the table for the bill.

"Well I'll see you at Jenna's barbeque" he said as we were walking away. She turned around with her eyes narrowed. "What do you mean, you're not coming" she said to him.

"Actually, I am, Jenna invited me and I would hate to be rude and refuse her gracious invitation" he told her smirking.

"And anyway it was my idea, Mason went to school with Jenna and this would be a perfect time to get some info out of him" he told her.

She scowled at him and he turned to me "I need your help with something can you come back with me" he asked me. I nodded "I'll ride with him to the house" I told Elena and she agreed.

I followed him out the back and to his car where we drove. "What do you need help with?" I asked him. "Nothing, I just wanted to get you away from miss angry pants for a little while, who knows the horrible things she's telling you about me" he said grinning at me.

 I rolled my eyes and we pulled up to the park. He bought me an ice cream cone from the ice cream truck and we sat down and talked.

"Do you think she'll ever forgive me?" he asked as I took a lick of my chocolate chip cookie dough swirl. I looked over at him. "You really screwed up this time Damon. I think it will take some time so I wouldn't push it if I were you". 

After an hour of us looking like idiotic kids on the swing set, we drove to the house for the barbeque. We walked into the house. Jenna greeted me with a hug as I walked in. She eyed Damon with distaste when she saw me with him.

"He treating you ok?" she asked me. He put his hands up looking innocent. "Yes, Aunt Jenna" I told her laughing. 

"She's only sixteen Damon so you better be respectful to her" she told him fiercely. "Please, she's like a baby sister to me, we literally just went to the playground and had ice cream and went on the slides" he told her.

She looked at me incredulously and I nodded "That's literally what we just did" I said laughing at her face. "Alright weirdos come in" she said moving out of the way. 

We walked into the kitchen where Rick and Mason were. "Hi I'm Damon Salvatore" Damon said introducing himself to Mason. Mason nodded shaking his hand "Yeah, I've heard great things about you" he told him.

"Really? I'm a dick" he told him. I snorted and Mason looked to me. "Nice to see you again Jessie" he told me. "You too" I said. "So you live with Jenna?" he asked me. I nodded "My parents died a little while ago and they were good friends with Jenna" I explained and he nodded.

Caroline walked in and grabbed a bowl of chips off the counter. "Hey Care" I said giving her a hug. "Hi!" she said enthusiastically and almost dumping the bowl on me.

I pulled her into the living room away from Mason and Jenna. "How are you feeling?" I asked her. "I'm doing ok. I'm getting used to it. It's not as bad as I thought it would be" she told me. We walked outside where Elena was on the phone with Stefan.

We sat down and she hung up the phone. "Hey guys" she said when she noticed us. I dug my hand into the bowl of ruffles Caroline was holding and stuffed them into my mouth. 

"You ok?" I asked her. "Yeah, I'm just worried about Stefan. He hasn't answered any of my calls" she told us. Caroline shrugged "I'm sure he's fine" she said and took another huge handful of chips "Man I can't stop eating, Stefan said it's a Vampire thing" she told us.

I dug my hand in again and stuffed my face "Well I guess I'm a vampire too then because I'm a bottomless pit today" I said laughing.

"It helps with my blood craving, it's awful" she told us. Elena nodded "Yeah Stefan hates that part of himself", Caroline nodded "Yeah and he thinks you're a constant temptation too" she said tactlessly.

Elena frowned "He said that?" she said hurt. "Trust me the feeling's there, that's why I broke up with Matt" she told her.

I put my hand on Elena's shoulder "Stefan loves you, the blood doesn't matter to him" I told her sincerely. Caroline scoffed and when I turned toward her stunned at her attitude she shrugged.

Rick walked out of the house "Hey guys foods ready come get it" he told us. Caroline stood up "Great I'm starving" she said and headed in.

"Whats with her?" I asked Elena. She shrugged "Just bitchy today I guess, she did just break up with Matt, she's probably not in the mood to hear about other peoples relationships" she explained.

"I guess but honestly have some tact" I said laughing and Elena agreed and we went in to join everyone else.

We had burgers and hot dogs and talked. Overall I think it was a great little party. Mason acted completely normal so we got no info from that.

We started to clean up after and Damon was admiring Jenna's silverware. "Nice" said to her. "My mothers" she replied.

"Thanks for inviting me" Damon told her. Jenna scoffed "Did I have a choice?" she said to him. "Aunt Jenna" I said pleadingly. She put her hands up "Fine, sorry". 

While she was distracted Damon grabbed a silver knife and put it into his pocket. He must be planning to use it on Mason.

The adults had a drink inside while me, Elena, and Carolin set up charades in the living room. Elena looked worriedly at her phone "Would I be a terrible friend if I went to check on Stefan and left you guys here?" she asked us.

I shook my head "Not if it will make you stop worrying" I told her. "There's nothing worse than a clingy girlfriend, I think you should stay here" Caroline said contradicting me.

I glared at her "Caroline if she's freaking out over this then she should go" I told her sternly. She sighed "Fine then let me drive you, I want to spend some time with you guys" she said grabbing her keys. 

"Ok" Elena said and we followed her out to her car.
