Leo couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Raph so agitated. (Which was saying a lot, since Raph got agitated easily and often). He'd immediately helped Donnie carry [F/N] to the infirmary, and when Donnie had kicked him out, he'd reluctantly left. Now he was merely pacing in circles, and quietly muttering under his breath.
It reminded Leo of the time they'd waited for [F/N] to finish her job interview. Raph had had the same sort of restless helplessness he had now. Leo narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. Raph seemed to get worried intensely about [F/N].
Of course, the rest of the turtles—Leo included—were worried too, but they were all managing their worry. Donnie was in the infirmary, monitoring (and hopefully improving) her condition. Mikey had gone to the kitchen to cook some "get well soon" food for [F/N]. They were all worried, but only Raph's worry seemed to be uncontrollable.
Then again, Raph had never been the best at controlling his emotions.
Mona Lisa exited the infirmary—she'd given Donnie some healing salve she said the Salamandrians used after fights. Hopefully, it would work on [F/N] as well, though she was far from a Salamandrian.
"My apologies, Raphael," she said again. Leo knew they had been allies for a while, but he still found the emotional detachment in her voice unsettling. "It was not my intention to harm your friend."
"Actually, it was," Raph corrected, whirling around and pausing in his pacing to stare Mona Lisa in the eyes. "Until you knew she was my friend, that is." He crossed his arms.
Mona Lisa blinked, as if she hadn't expected Raph to be so upset. "Well...you understand, I believed she was challengi—"
"You've been on Earth long enough; you should understand an open hand doesn't mean an attack, Mona," he growled.
"On the contrary, I don't believe I've received enough exposure of that gesture on Earth to understand it," Mona countered, her eyes narrowing.
"Don't you think if she was an enemy, we would have attacked her the moment we saw her?!" Raph snapped.
"Perhaps she was an enemy and none of you realized it!" Mona retorted. She was getting agitated now; Leo had heard she had a temper, but he hadn't quite witnessed it, especially not against Raph.
"If we don't treat her like an enemy, then you don't either!" Raph yelled. "Simple logic!"
"Pardon me, Raphael, but our judgement is not one and the same!"
"Are you saying that we're stupid when it comes to trusting people?! Because maybe you're ri—"
"Stop!" Leo shouted, striding over to insert himself in between Mona Lisa and Raph's glares. He stared sternly down at Raph. "We have an injured friend in our infirmary. That's that. It doesn't matter whose fault it was, as long as it doesn't happen again. Understand?"
Raph folded his arms wordlessly. Leo imagined behind him, Mona Lisa was doing something similar.
Leo turned to Mona Lisa. "Mona Lisa, are you planning on staying before you go back to the Mutanimals?"
"Yes, actually," Mona Lisa replied, still glaring at Raph.
"We gave [F/N] your room. I don't think she'd mind too much if we took her stuff out, considering where she is right now." Leo glanced around. "I'll go take her stuff out, and you can go get some more of your things from your ship and settle in."
Raph looked irritated. "Are you sure she wouldn't mind?"
"You're the one who originally didn't even want her to stay in Mona Lisa's room," Leo responded.
Raph considered this. "I'll go see how she is," he said, and stomped away.
Leo stared after his brother with concern. He couldn't remember Mona Lisa and Raph ever having an argument like the one he had just witnessed.
As I stormed off, I heard Mona calling after me, "If she wakes in your presence, give her my apologies!"
The request made me feel bad about being angry. Mona Lisa wasn't a bad person. She'd just misunderstood [F/N]'s gesture horribly and acted on that misunderstanding...
...and now [F/N] was hurt because of it.
I'd done similar things myself. Maybe I shouldn't be mad at Mona after all.
"Raph, I thought I told you to leave," Donnie said wearily as I entered the area.
"Yeah, well, I did. You never said I couldn't come back," I retorted.
"Well, no, I didn't," Donnie relented. "But it was implied."
"Are you gonna kick me out again?"
Donnie considered. "I guess at this point, there wouldn't be much harm in letting you stay."
"How is she?" I started interrogating Donnie without really meaning to.
Donnie didn't seem bothered, and gave me a report. "Her status is fine; it's not as bad as it looks. It's mostly just bruising. I adapted Mona Lisa's Salamandrian salve for [F/N], and it seems to be working well."
"So she'll be alright?"
"Yes."
"Can she go to work again?"
Donnie squinted at me for a moment. "Yes," he answered, right before I was about to punch him for staring and not answering. "I mean, I think she'll be fine. It might be best to wait another day or two, just to be sure."
"Can I see her?" I asked.
"I don't see why not," Donnie replied absentmindedly.
I started to head into the room, when Donnie called after me, "Raph."
I turned around. "Yeah?"
Donnie hesitated for a moment, as if debating with what he should say. "[F/N] will wake up soon. It doesn't seem as if she'll have lasting brain damage, but there's a possibility that she'll say things she wouldn't normally say, or she'll forget things you say to her in this state."
I furrowed my brow. "So?"
"Just saying." Donnie held up his hands. "Go on in."
