"Don't forget! You're meeting us at eight o'clock at the Cotton Club," Sarah called to Elizabeth as they parted ways late Friday afternoon. Elizabeth was worn out from the week of nurses training, but she nodded towards Sarah in confirmation before heading towards the apartment.
She unlocked the door and went in to find Steve sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. He looked up as she came in and noticed her nurses' uniform.
"Hi, Steve! You're home early," Elizabeth called as she made her way towards her bedroom.
"Got the rest of the day off. I think that I'll be going to see a film with Bucky later or something," he replied.
"Sounds like fun!" Elizabeth yelled, the door shutting behind her. She looked around her room for a moment and smiled. It was a small room with a bed and a nightstand on the far wall beneath the window. There was a small wardrobe in the corner and a vanity beside it. Elizabeth took off her nurse uniform and hung it in the wardrobe, looking inside for a dress to wear for that evening.
She had a cute navy-blue dress with white and red flower print that she had recently made for herself. It was a beautiful design with lace capped sleeves and fell around her knees. She pulled it out and laid it down on her bed. She put her undergarments, hose, and shoes out as well before turning and going into the bathroom.
She drew herself a bath and removed her slip and the rest of her undergarments and stepped into the bath, bathing and enjoying the warm water. She stayed there for a little while before she started hearing Steve out in the kitchen, and she decided to get out. Elizabeth dried herself off and went across the small hall and into her own.
She put on her undergarments and her dress, and she applied some makeup to her face and styled her hair before going out and seeing what Steve was up to.
He was trying to cook something up in a pan for dinner.
"Do you need any help?" Elizabeth asked him. He shook his head, focusing on the pan in front of him. Elizabeth got out two plates and set the table for the two of them. She normally was the one cooking, but it seemed that Steve was trying to learn one of her recipes.
He finished up and set the pan down on the table along with some dinner rolls and lima beans. Elizabeth peered into the pan and raised an eyebrow.
"It's hash," Steve said quickly. It was leftover meat from a roast that Elizabeth had made earlier that week with potatoes and onions mixed in. It was a little overcooked, but Elizabeth served herself a small amount and began to eat quietly.
"You going out tonight?" Steve asked her as they ate.
"Yeah I'm going out with Sarah, Georgie, and a friend of his," Elizabeth said. She knew Steve wasn't the biggest fan of her going out, as she loved to stay out all night. She often got into some kind of trouble while she was out, to no fault of her own.
"A friend?"
"Yeah, his name is Joseph. Sarah says he's scheduled to ship out sometime next week in Georgie's unit. I've heard he's awfully nice."
"So you're going on a date?"
"We're going dancing. All four of us together. I'll probably get home late. No need to worry about me."
Steve frowned at her when she said this.
"Come on, Lizzie, you're always getting into trouble, and you know it," Steve said.
"We're just going dancing, Steve. Don't you go throwing a hissy fit about it."
"Just tell me where you'll be, in case I need to find you."
