(AN: Hey everyone, sorry about the delay in posting! I fully intend to complete this fanfic by the end of the year, but my motivation has been a bit low as I'm not getting the kind of feedback I wish I was. I hope you enjoy this chapter! Leave a comment on what your favorite part has been so far! -Rach)
Tony was only the first of many team members who flooded back into the property. Elizabeth watched as one by one, people she had only heard of made their way to the Avengers Facility.
First, it was Rocket and Nebula, then Rhodey, and then Rocket and Hulk went to get Thor. Natasha snuck out late one night to go get Clint Barton, who had become a known mass-killer since he lost his entire family.
Elizabeth had known how he had felt, and many times in the depths of her mind, she had thought of reaching out to him and joining his mission to rid the world of people who were far from innocent, but she couldn't bring herself to kill anymore. There had been more than enough death in the world for millions upon millions of years.
Elizabeth spent most of her time with Tony, helping him and Rocket to fix and build the important mechanics of the time travel system. She worked mostly alone, rarely wasting her time to talk or catch up with others. It's not that she was trying to push the others away, but she wanted to bring everyone back without a second lost. Five years had been too long and not another second could be lost.
Rocket and Elizabeth were working together to bolt everything together when Tony, Steve, and the rest of the team began to enter the garage-turned-work-space.
"How's it going, Rachet?" Tony called over to them.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes as she scooted out from under the giant structure they would use to facilitate their time travel.
"It's Rocket," the raccoon called. "And take it easy. You're only a genius on Earth, pal."
"Well, he's also an asshole, so," Elizabeth said, just loud enough for Tony to hear as she stood and made her way over to him.
"Hey, I heard that," Tony called back. "Don't forget who wrote you a fat check for your project for the last few years!"
"Oh Tony," Elizabeth said. "It may be your money, but Pepper was the one who signed off on the check," she patted Tony on the shoulder, a grin on her face as Tony's face fell and for once he had no words. "Where's everyone else?" She asked, only spotting a rather drunk Thor and Tony.
"They're getting ready for some-" Thor belched, causing Elizabeth to grimace. "Suit test."
"I'll be back," Elizabeth said, turning and making her way to where the suits were being made. She entered just in time to run into Clint.
Since he had arrived, the two of them had barely spoken, but she could almost feel the pain radiating off of him. His hair had been cut, and he had a bunch of tattoos that she had never seen before.
Elizabeth's mind wandered back to her time with his family while the Avengers were in Sokovia. His wife, Laura, had been a great comfort even if she hadn't realized it fully at the time.
"Elizabeth," his voice drew her back to the present. He nodded his head, acknowledging her presence.
"Clint."
The two of them moved silently towards where Bruce, Rhodey, and Scott were talking. They stopped in the doorway just as Scott was speaking.
"Alright," he said, shaking in the suit. "I'm not ready for this."
"I'm game," Clint's voice came from beside her. "I'll do it."
Elizabeth looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. He didn't care at all, he wanted to do the test run himself. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the glance between Bruce and Rhodey before they both nodded.
