Elizabeth looked up from the dinner table at the farmhouse to the television and frowned, seeing the news flash to the aftermath of Sokovia. She set down her coffee cup beside what was becoming her plans to create a new eye, and she looked over to where Laura Barton stood, her hands clenched tightly together as she too watched the television.
"I should be there," Elizabeth said quietly to herself, clenching her fists, watching as the devastation was being aired on television. Laura turned and looked back at her for a second before reaching to pick up the remote.
"Not everyone can do what they can," Laura said quietly.
"But I can," Elizabeth said quietly. "And I'm not."
"Because right now, you're still healing, Elizabeth," Laura said, turning off the TV and standing from the couch. Elizabeth watched as she came to sit down beside her. Even though the women had just met, Laura wanted to help Elizabeth in any way that she could. "Clint tells me everything, you know. I've heard about you, about everything you've been through."
Laura looked at the plans on the table and touched them gently. She was about to say something when the phone rang. She stood abruptly and went to where she had left her cell phone and picked it up. Apparently, the team was on their way back the farm to collect Elizabeth and bring her to the tower.
Elizabeth sat at the table staring and modifying her plans until finally, the group arrived, and she was escorted out of the farmhouse with a brief thank you to Laura for allowing her to stay.
As she began to board the ship, she froze when she saw that sitting beside Vision was the Scarlet Witch. She stared at the Witch for a long period of time until the doors shut behind firmly behind her, and she was forced to sit down.
The Witch refused to make eye contact with Elizabeth, staring down at her hands. Elizabeth kept one cautious eye on the girl who had messed with her head the entire rest of the way back. this time, she wasn't going to take any more chances.
When they arrived back at the tower, Elizabeth made her way through the area that had been completely destroyed to go make herself a drink. After the past few days, she needed one. Luckily, Thor had left his flask of Asgardian ale, and she poured half the flask down her throat, praying that the alcohol would incapacitate her. As she set the rest of it down, she realized that she wasn't alone. Wanda was standing in the middle of the room, staring at Elizabeth.
"What do you want?" Elizabeth demanded, turning to face the girl who had messed with Elizabeth's mind, which had triggered her anger and set her on edge.
"I'm sorry," Wanda said.
"Oh I'm sure you are," Elizabeth said, sauntering over to where Wanda stood.
"I saw what happened to your mind. You were experimented on by Hydra," she said quietly. "I'm sorry."
"You saw what they did to me, then? Turned me into a murderous freakshow? Turns out we really are a hell of a lot more similar than I thought."
"I thought that what I was doing was right."
"Oh? And how did that turn out for you?" Wanda's gaze turned to the floor, while Elizabeth waited for a response from her.
"I lost everything."
Suddenly, Elizabeth realized that her anger was not a result of Wanda, but it was a result of anger towards herself and towards Hydra for everything that had happened to her. Elizabeth reached behind her and grabbed the flask, tossing it to Wanda.
"Me too, kid," she said, before slumping to the floor, not bothering to wipe the broken glass away. "Me too."
Wanda came and sat down beside her, both of their backs against the bar area. Wanda took a few sips of the alcohol before handing it back to Elizabeth who was already feeling the buzz.
