The first few days were spent in silence, each person wondering what the next step was.
After a few weeks, people began to try and move on. Steve hosted a few press conferences and offered his help in any way that he could.
Bruce left the compound, as did Rocket and Nebula together. Bruce left to figure out the situation with himself and the Hulk. Nebula and Rocket were determined to check on the other planets, with Natasha setting up a home base to coordinate the team. Carol left to go back to her homeworld and check on damages done around the rest of the galaxy.
Tony left the compound shortly after his recovery, with little said to the rest of the team. Rhodey went to track down the rest of the team and find out who all was still alive.
Elizabeth, on the other hand, did not. She spent most of her time in the compound, locked behind her doors. No one else knew her secret. She kept her hand pressed firmly to her stomach, unwilling to let go of the one thing that Bucky had left behind in the world, their child.
Elizabeth hardly slept and hardly ate, despite knowing that she had to in order to protect the child. She tried to force down food, but she couldn't eat. She didn't want to.
One night, as she restlessly turned back and forth, she could sense that something was wrong. She sat up in bed, a slight pain forming in her core.
"No," she whispered. "No, no."
Suddenly she felt it. A small contraction. She was having a miscarriage.
Elizabeth stood quickly and ran to the bathroom, doubled over with pains from cramping.
"Please, no," she muttered, but it was too late.
For the next hour, she laid on the floor in the bathroom, willing desperately that it was all a dream. Elizabeth cried and cried, feeling the pain both physically and emotionally. She laid there, even after the miscarriage appeared to be over, for hours and hours until suddenly there was a knock at her door.
"Liz, you okay?" It was Natasha's voice.
When she got no response, she opened the door and stiffened at the sight in front of her. Elizabeth was sprawled on the floor, a slight bloodstain on her pants, her arms wrapped around her stomach in the fetal position.
Nat came in and sat on the ground beside Elizabeth and pulled her into her lap.
"Jesus Christ, Lizzie, what's goi-" Nat was cut off when
"I lost it," Elizabeth whispered, her tears dried onto her face. "I lost the baby, Nat."
"What?" Nat asked.
She hadn't known that Elizabeth was pregnant. Elizabeth had kept everyone in the dark, just like Bucky asked. They had wanted to tell everyone together, and she had waited to get him back, but now it was too late. Bucky was gone, and now so was the baby.
"Elizabeth," Nat said again. "You were pregnant?"
Elizabeth nodded, beginning to shake with tears again.
