As Sam, Steve, and Bucky began to hash out the plan on how to stop the doctor, Elizabeth slipped out of the room, excusing herself to the bathroom. She walked down to where there was a temporary bathroom and shut the door behind her. She checked her arm to see how it was healing, and she found that it no longer hurt. The serum worked perfectly, she healed much faster than normal.
She was only in the bathroom for a few moments. As she stepped back out into the abandoned building, she turned to head back to where the rest of the group was, but she decided otherwise, choosing instead to wander around the abandoned building. She needed time to think.
After half an hour passed and Elizabeth had still not returned, Bucky also excused himself and went in search of her. He made his way around some of the concrete pillars and found Elizabeth pacing back and forth. When she suddenly felt his presence, she froze from her pacing and turned to face him. Her mind was obviously in another place.
"Hey," he said, keeping his spot in the doorway of the room.
"Hey," Elizabeth said, keeping her tone dark and low.
They looked at each other for a moment before Elizabeth spoke up again.
"I created those monsters. And now they're coming back to haunt me," she shook her head. "I should have refused. I should have stopped my work."
"You couldn't say no, Lizzie. They had you wrapped around their finger," Bucky said, approaching her quietly.
"There's already too much blood on my hands and on my conscious. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take," she said.
"I know," was all that Bucky said as he held open his arms. Elizabeth hesitated for a moment before allowing him to hold her close. She could feel his arms enveloping her in a warm embrace, and she sighed.
This was a familiar scene. Two broken people standing alone in a nearly-empty room, trying to find some semblance of comfort. Bucky could feel Elizabeth's trembling touch around his waist as he held her, holding up the weight of both of their worlds as best he could.
After a few moments, Elizabeth pulled back and looked at Bucky's face. He still had a gash on the left side of his face that was healing. She lifted up her hand and placed it on top of the gash. She felt him flinch and saw his eyes flicker to where her hand was outstretched.
She focused her attention on the wound and began to heal it, seeing through the fibers and skin, sewing it up from the inside out. As the skin formed around the wound, Elizabeth removed her hand and looked up to see no trace of the wound at all. She then looked back down into Bucky's eyes, and before she could say anything, he pressed his lips against hers.
It was a desperate kiss, searching for her affection, which she quickly gave him. He used his flesh arm to pull her in tightly, her body pressed against his. She wanted more. She wanted all of him, and she clutched at the hem of his shirt, wanting to throw it off when he suddenly pulled away.
Immediately she felt embarrassed, her desperation evident in her eyes. She looked down at the floor, not wanting to meet Bucky's eyes, but she felt him grab her chin and lift her head towards him.
He had removed his shirt himself. His blue eyes seemed to stare into her soul, and Elizabeth almost gasped.
"Kiss me," he whispered.
And she did.

A few hours later, the sun was setting, and Elizabeth found herself sitting on a windowsill, wrapped up in Bucky's arms. His flesh arm was slung over her shoulder and around her chest, and she loved feeling the warmth of his skin on hers.
