"Make sure she keeps her hands away from anything, and that she stays put."
A metal clang brought Elizabeth back to full consciousness. She opened her eyes to see that she was in a concrete box, her robotic eye was covered with an eyepatch that she couldn't reach. The mixture of the metal box and the inability to move immediately sent a surge of panic through her body, her memories of Hydra coming flooding back to her.
"No," she whispered before suddenly a shock ran through her body. She was being electrocuted for speaking, and she choked on the metal taste in her mouth.
"Might not want to speak, doctor. You'll get shocked again. We're doing this for your own good and for the good of everyone else," a voice echoed in the room. Elizabeth looked around, trying to find the source, her eyes landing on a speaker attached to the concrete high up on the wall. She bit her lip, feeling the chilled metal wrapped around her neck.
She remained still and silent, allowing her eyes to do the work for her. She looked around the room, taking in the concrete and the sole locked metal door in the right-hand corner. She was sitting on the floor in a blue jumpsuit, her hands held in two vibranium locks that were attached to the hall. She couldn't move her hands at all, and when she focused her concentration on the vibranium and tried to use her powers to free herself, another electric shock came, this time rendering her nearly unconscious.
"I wouldn't try that either," the voice over the speaker came again.
Elizabeth wrinkled her nose and tried to take deep breaths. She couldn't let the panic settle into her mind, or else she would go crazy.
All she could do was breathe. And that's exactly what she did. In through her nose. And back out.
In and out. In and out. In and out. In and out. In and out. In and out.
Over and over and over again. She breathed.
She allowed her mind to wander. She wondered where Steve was. She wondered where Bucky was. She wondered where the team was, and if they had accomplished their mission. No one spoke to her anymore, and she couldn't speak back to the person over the speaker for fear of being shocked.
For hours she sat on the cold floor, praying her friends were okay.
After some time, she heard clanging and the door swung open to reveal a small man surrounded by four guards carrying in a tray of food. He approached her cautiously, keeping one eye on her and another eye nervously on the guards.
He set the tray down on the floor before backing away and fled from the room.
"After you eat, you will be escorted to your bathroom," one of the guards said gruffly.
Elizabeth looked down at the tray of food and grabbed the piece of bread on the tray. She wasn't hungry, but she knew that she should eat to keep up her strength.
She opened her mouth as if to eat the bread, but she was shocked again, this time with no reasoning. The piece of bread fell from her hands and onto the floor, causing one of the guards to laugh. He was quickly silenced by his superior.
"Here. It shouldn't happen again," he said picking the bread up and handing it back to Elizabeth.
There was something about his face that seemed genuine, so she accepted the bread. She opened her mouth to eat, steeling her body for the metallic shock, but nothing came. She sighed in relief and ate quickly.
The guards remained in the room while she finished eating. As soon as Elizabeth had finished, the guards went over to her hands and unlocked them from her chains. She was pulled up and escorted out of the concrete box that she had been placed in.
Down the hall, Elizabeth found herself at a restroom. Unfortunately, she had to use it in the presence of the guards, and she pursed her lips in upset at the idea, but she did it anyway.
As she washed her hands, she wondered if any of the others had been captured and why she was being kept away from them if they had been captured.
Elizabeth quickly dried her hands, and much to her dismay, watched as almost immediately her hands were placed back into the cuffs. They were incredibly heavy and uncomfortable, but she was unable to protest for fear of being shocked. The guard opened the door and led her out.
At that moment, Elizabeth turned her head and noticed a familiar face being led down the hallway towards her. It was Sam Wilson. He didn't seem to notice her, eyes focused on the guard in front of him, so Elizabeth did something irrational.
"SAM!" She screamed. For a split second, he locked eyes with hers before the shock of the collar went off, causing her to fall to the ground. She was quickly hauled up and onto her feet before being carted away from him.
The pain and metallic taste in her mouth lulled her into an uncomfortable sleep, from one that she had difficulty waking up.

"Lizzie? Good god, I've found her. Get Steve!" A voice woke Elizabeth up from her dead sleep. She looked around the room to see Sam standing above her, shaking her awake.
She looked around, gathering her senses. She didn't recognize the room that she was in, and she realized that the guards had probably moved her when she had yelled at Sam.
"You okay?" Sam asked.
Elizabeth went to speak but remembered the collar on her neck. She pointed to it and shook her head. Sam seemed to gather the information he needed.
"We'll make sure to get it off of you. But for now, we've got to move. We only have 3 more minutes until the coast guard and the rest of the military arrives."
Elizabeth nodded and stood, leaning heavily on Sam. She could feel a burning sensation in her throat, but she ignored it. Sam managed to break through Elizabeth's chains on her hands and led her out of the room.
They wandered down a corridor that Elizabeth had never seen before, and they climbed an innumerable number of stairs at breakneck speed. She was convinced that she would topple over, but still, she moved up.
Finally, they reached the top of the stairs, and at the top stood Steve, Bucky, and the rest of Steve's team. Elizabeth sighed in relief when she saw all of them, only to gasp at the sight of Bucky's missing arm.
She wanted to ask what had happened, but there was nothing she could say with the collar on, so she pointed to Steve and then to her neck, wanting him to break it off with his shield. That's when she realized that Steve's shield was nowhere to be found.
Steve frowned and approached, placing his hands on the collar. That immediately sent a shock through Elizabeth's body and her knees buckled, but still, Steve continued, his anger at seeing his sister being injured giving him enough strength to rip the collar off of her neck.
Elizabeth staggered a bit but was caught by Bucky, who helped her stand on her own.
"Hey," he whispered.
Elizabeth tried to reply, but her throat screamed for her to stop. She frowned and looked up at Bucky and shook her head.
"Come on. We don't have much time," Steve said, pointing to the quinjet. He gave his sister a sympathetic smile. "We'll have to figure this out once we've gotten someplace safe."
Elizabeth nodded, and with the help of Steve, Bucky, and the rest of the group, she made her way up and into the quinjet. Elizabeth sat down gently into one of the benches and rested her head against the wall. She watched as Wanda and Sam trampled into the ship, with Scott and Clint trailing behind.
Bucky placed himself beside Elizabeth, allowing her to curl up in his arm, her head on his chest. The two of them sat in silence, taking in each other's touch. The quinjet began to take off into the air, and Elizabeth allowed herself to relax. No one spoke, but they all seemed happy to see each other and be out of the prison.
"We're taking Clint and Scott home first. Then we'll be on our way to a safe place," Steve said quietly to everyone from the cockpit.
"Where is this safe place?" Wanda asked.
"Wakanda."
