Nothing, obviously.
1. Meaning behind username?
I wanted something that sounded nice and that reflected who I was as a writer.
I like the season of autumn. It was also autumn when I joined, and I had recently finished The Journey, which takes place largely in autumn. These were all probable factors in the election of the word. But probably the biggest factor was that it was just a nice modifier for sunfire.
As for sunfire, it was a word taken straight out of The Journey, Chapter 7, when Fred and his siblings see the massive forest of Edivernel for the first time.
"... a wall of green rose ahead of them, dark, brilliant emerald green, touched with shifting sun-fire."
It was a succinct, poetic compound word, and this seemed to encapsulate my writing aim precisely. So autumn_sunfire it was.
2. Favorite book?
Where's that Boromir meme when you need it? ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY PICK A FAVORITE BOOK!
Like Silz, I'm not sure whether this means on Wattpad or off Wattpad.
Off Wattpad: I'll opt for Mark of the Horse Lord by Rosemary Sutcliff.
On Wattpad: I've recently started reading The General's Fall by ThatOneWriter2001 and it. is. PHENOMENAL. Earwen's gift with words is something else. Her character descriptions are paragraphs that you want to relax in, her dialogue captivating and meaningful, and the emerging storyline and arcs intriguing and real. Like a suspenseful war story that kicks off with a bang (like, almost literally), where you can't yet tell which side is wrong? (And you just want to grab all the smol beans from both sides and put them in a safe place?) Completely recommend this book.
3. Icon and background?
My profile icon is, yes, me. Next to the wall phone in my hallway, wearing my new glasses that don't have a broken lens (yay!). Not much to say about that.
My background is a strip of my map, hand-drawn by sister & me, which will be included in The Journey when it's published!!! The picture was taken sideways, so left-right actually equals north-south. The blob of forest on the top right is the eastern edge of Edivernel, with the Lahera River running out of it and bending south toward Gontland. On the left, southward, is Glumintor, Falgor Darkhawk's native country, and below that the Haelor Sea.
4. What type of books do you write// if you write?
*rubs hands together*
Fantasy, tops, obviously. I can't get away from it because Legea has been developing for... *counts up* seven years now, and the bigger it gets, the more stories there are to tell. *waves at you as I drop into the exponentially speeding vortex* Once it takes hold of us... it never lets go.
More specifically (or is it more generally?), I write stories with a heavy focus on ordinary people and familial/platonic relationships, though I don't shy away from the occasional royal personage or romance either. ;) My themes gravitate towards coming-of-age, friendship, and forgiveness. Wrestling with the definition and demands of loyalty, especially conflicting loyalties, is another motif I enjoy revisiting. So no matter what genre I write, you can expect to see those kind of things as my "signature touch" on it.
I've always wanted to write historical fiction. I adore the genre's possibilities and uses, and most of my childhood reading was stellar-quality historical fiction. I have a million bunnies floating around in my head, and someday, I promise, they'll be touched. *looks pointedly at Legea vortex* I have delved on a mini-scale way into fanfiction, which I immensely enjoy, and why is life so short because I really have to write a Silmarillion fanfiction. I also do have a futuristic/dystopian story planned that IS getting written, no question about it, because it takes place in Legea...
In short, I'm not scared of trying out genres. I just... don't have the TIME.
5. Recommend three books.
We'll leave TGF out of this, because I have way too many more books that need shoutouts too. XD In no particular order:
i. Between Two Words by CelticWarriorQueen17
Historical fiction, first-century A.D. Rome and Britain. Outstandingly researched and beautifully written, with a poignant, bittersweet plot. This was the author's NaNoWriMo project, and I read the first draft as she posted it during that time. She's now in progress with the second draft, which is still BETTER. I would honestly have it on my bookshelf, no regrets. Cross that, I'm coveting it for my bookshelf. When's the release, Gwyn???
ii.The Younger Prince by Silvan_Elleth
What can I say about this book? It broke me. A book that does that is a great book. From my end comment, which I'm NOT pasting here because spoilers: "Well-conceived, impeccably plotted, dark, real, gut-wrenching."
AUTUMN WHY DO YOU LOVE A DARK GUT-WRENCHING BOOK
BECAUSE I DOOOOO
AND BECAUSE LEO
LLLLEEEOOOOOOOO
*dies*
Ahem.
iii. Yet the Sun Had No Mercy by Stars_Alight
This little one-shot, written for a LOTR contest, is one of those stories that's still sticking in my head weeks after I read it. Written with Stars' signature evocative style and poetic repetition of form, I found this a startling, fascinating, and thought-provoking read.
iv. Dark Sun by Illeandir
Because I'm a rebel, and because I can't just pick Stars' entry without fair mention of the one for the same contest that touched me with equal depth. Also a very short story, Dark Sun is one of the best pieces I've ever read from Illeandir, and it is masterful. Not to mention... sad.
Did you HAVE TO?
*sniffles* is okay, I like it anyway.
6. Secret about your Wattpad.
*Gusteau voice* I have a secret??
umm... I joined because I wanted to read my cousin's stuff?
7. Tag 10 people
*pushes lower lip out* Make meh.
And if your name appears anywhere else in this chapter, consider yourself tagged as well. This took me way too long and I'm outta here byyyeee
