2018 is just as much of a horribly tragic year for Ariana Grande. The ups and downs of her engagement with Pete and friendship with Selena. Hopefully, 2019 brings something different...
A few days after the release of her last music video, fans and people flooded Pete's comment section on instagram. He released a statement to his instagram story: 'I've kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I'm trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference. Especially in today's climate where everyone loves to be offended and upset it is truly mind boggling. I've been getting online bullied and in public by people for 9 months. I've spoken about BPD and being suicidal publicly only in hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don't want to be on this earth. I just want you guys to know. No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won't. I'm upset I even have to say this. To all of those holding me down and seeing this for what it is - I see you and I love you. Pete'
Ariana, not wanting her fans to go and leave hate comments about Pete, responded in a statement of her own published to her story: 'i know u already know this but i feel i need to remind my fans to please be gentler with others. i really don't endorse anything but forgiveness and positvity. i care deeply about pete and his health. i'm asking you to please to gentler with others, even on the internet. i've learned thru my own mistakes to not be reactive on my socials so i do understand. but you truly do not know what anybody is experiencing ever. regardless of what they choose to display on social media or how they may appear in public. i can promise u that. so please let whatever point you're trying to make go. I will always have irrevocable love for him and if you've gotten any other impression from my recent work, you might have missed the point.❤'

On top of her success with the music video, Ariana was releasing the Dangerous Woman Docuseries which followed her around on tour, talked about recovering from the Manchester attack, and the process of creating Sweetener. The series had four episodes in total which premiered on youtube. In episode four, "One Love," Ariana writes an open letter to fans following the tragic attack and lives lost during her tour: 'I'm writing to you this February 22, 2018. It's been eight months since the attack at our show at the Manchester Arena. It's impossible to know where to start or to know what to say about this part. May 22, 2017, will leave me speechless and filled with questions for the rest of my life. Music is an escape. Music is the safest thing I've ever known. Music -- pop music, stan culture -- is something that brings people together, introduces them to some of their best friends, and makes them feel like they can be themselves. It is comfort. It is fun. It is expression. It is happiness. It is the last thing that would ever harm someone. It is safe. When something so opposite and so poisonous takes place in your world that is supposed to be everything but that ... it is shocking and heartbreaking in a way that seems impossible to fully recover from. The spirit of the people of Manchester, the families affected by this horrendous tragedy, and my fans around the world have permanently impacted all of us for the rest of our lives. Their love, strength, and unity showed me, my team, my dancers, band, and entire crew not to be defeated. To continue during the scariest and saddest of times. To not let hate win. But instead, love as loudly as possible, and to appreciate every moment. The people of Manchester were able to change an event that portrayed the worst of humanity into one that portrayed the most beautiful of humanity. "Like a handprint on my heart" ... I think of Manchester constantly and will carry this with me every day for the rest of my life.'

Meanwhile, Selena was seen out the first time since leaving rehab. She enjoyed snowboarding with friends and looked happy and healthy in the photos that her friends shared on instagram. Ariana smiled when she saw them. Selena looked so carefree and happy. She sent her another text and they planned to meet up again before Christmas.
