2018 is just as much of a horribly tragic year for Ariana Grande. The ups and downs of her engagement with Pete and friendship with Selena. Hopefully, 2019 brings something different...
The fourth show of the Sweetener World Tour in New York was over. Ariana was grateful that Selena stayed here for all four shows and they got to spend so much time together in between the hetic tour life. Her tour wasn't ending anytime soon and she was glad that Selena was a fellow singer and understood the life. She knew they would be okay with long chunks of time between their little meetups.
The sun was out and scorching in the early morning. Ariana could feel the temperature rising inside her apartment when she woke up. She kicked her blankets off of her and rubbed the sleep off of her face before standing up and stretching. The dogs were still asleep at the end of the bed and Selena's side of the bed was made. It didn't even look like anyone slept in the bed beside Ariana. Ariana went to the bathroom to brush her teeth, wash her face, and get her day started before her hair stylist and makeup artist arrived.
After exiting the bathroom, she went into the living room to find Selena's luggage all packed and ready by the front door. She grabbed a vitamin water from the fridge before finding Selena sitting outside on the balcony. They smiled at each other and Selena kissed her cheek while holding onto her hand. Ariana admired the sun glowing on Selena's makeup free face.
"Sleep well?"
"Yeah," Selena nodded, a smile permanently stuck on her face, "I tried to be as quiet as possible. How about you?"
"The last few nights are the best I've ever slept in a long time," Ariana laced her fingers through Selena's, "I'm gonna miss it. I'm gonna miss you."
"I'm gonna miss you a lot."
The sounds of the busy city below them echoed loudly. Cars honking and slamming on their breaks, people walking and shouting, birds chirping, and dogs barking brought a sense of comfort to Ariana who associated the sounds with home since moving to the big city. She liked being in the middle of it all. Los Angeles was nothing compared to New York and she was glad she made the move even though a lot of her family was still in LA.
"Ready to head back to LA?" Ariana asked.
"I guess. I'm just ready to be working again," Selena replied.
"You know, I've been thinking about my birthday next week..." Ariana smiled, "I'll be touring in Canada and I know my family will probably plan some suprise. I just want you to know so that you don't feel bad cause you'll be busy."
"Doesn't stop me from feeling bad. We're together and it's the first birthday we're celebrating as more than friends..." Selena blushed, mumbling, "As girlfriends."
"Selena, trust me, it's fine."
Selena felt bad that she would be missing Ariana's 26th birthday. Her golden birthday. It was her special day and Selena wanted to make her feel just as special, celebrated, and loved as she is. She had been thinking about a gift for Ariana for a whole week now. She wanted to give her something meaningful and not something just expensive or materialistic.
Selena stood up and grabbed Ariana's hand, "I have a suprise for you." Ariana giggled and let her lead them into the apartment. They went into the living room and Selena unzipped her luggage to grab a thinly wrapped square gift and hand it to Ariana.
"What is it?"
"It's your birthday present."
Ariana smiled and ripped off the wrapping paper, letting it fall to the floor, as she smiled even bigger when she realized what it was: Selena's album. The album cover looked beautiful and she read the tracklist and couldn't wait to hear what each song sounded like. She stood on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms around Selena in a tight embrace, "Thank you, Selena. Am I the first to have the completed album?"
"Of course," Selena answered, "Look at the back."
"The back?" Ariana turned it over and saw a message dedicated to her written on the back.
'Ariana, Luck had no part in finding you,the stars aligned, your eyes met mine,our souls forever entwined, love is tender, love this blind, I know no answers, except I am yours and you are mine.'
Her eyes watered as she placed a hand over her mouth, "Oh, Selena... this is so beautiful. I- I don't even know what to say."
"I'm glad you like it."
Selena cupped Ariana's face in her hands and leaned down to press a soft kiss to her lips. When they pulled apart, she rested her forehead against hers with such love and adoration in her eyes, "I love you."
"I love you too," Tears ran down Ariana's face as she held Selena.
This was the first time in a long time that she felt so content with her life, career, and partner. She knew as long as she had Selena, she would be fine.
