Ariana posted a photo at the end of 2018 with the caption: 'farewell 2018, fuck you. i hope this new year brings you all much laughter, clarity and healing. be gentle with yourselves and each other. if we made it thru last year, we'll for sure make it thru this one. thank you for everything.'

Selena also posted a photo online for the first time since her break from social media and the spotlight: 'It's been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support. Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It's always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it's not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.'

This tweet by Ariana caused a whirlwind of drama and backlash on twitter: 'guys, i know there are grown men arguing online rn but miley and i dropping our beautiful, new songs tonight so if y'all could please jus behave for just like a few hours so the girls can shine that'd be so sick thank u.'

Kayne west pulled Ariana into the mix after his twitter fued with Drake: 'All of this foolishness weighed on my mental health so @ArianaGrande you know I got love for you but until you're ready to really make sure everyone's ok don't use me or this moment to promote a song'

Ariana replied Kayne's tweet, apologizing: 'with all due respect, i don't need to use anyone to promote anything. period. i was making a comment ab what men were doing at the time vs. women. it was a joke which i understand now was probably insensitive. i apologize if i was in any way triggering and hope u feel well today.'

Pete Davidson responded to Kayne's tweets on a note posted to instagram: 'Bravo Kayne West for standing up for yourself and speaking out against mental health. I can't explain to you enough how difficult and scary it is to be honest about stuff like this. We need people like Kayne. No one should ever point fingers at you for your bravery in speaking about mental health. I'm seriously disgusted.'

After Ariana was dragged into the mix, Pete saw this and posted another note to his instagram before deleting his account: 'i really don't want to be on this earth anymore. i'm doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don't know how much longer i can last. all i've ever tried to do is help people. just remember i told you so❤' Nicki Minaj reacted to his post and told people to send him love and attacked fake fans and supporters for only sending love after they're gone and not when they're alive and well.

After seeing Pete's suicidal posts, Ariana went to the SNL studio and waited downstairs just in case Pete wanted to see her, or talk: 'man i'm so sorry i told a dumb joke. i really didn't mean any harm. all i want everyone to be healthy and happy. so desperately. please. my god.'

She followed up with another tweet: 'I'm downstairs and I'm not going anywhere if you need anyone or anything. I know u have everyone u need and that's not me, but i'm here too.'

After all the drama and everything that went down between them on twitter, Ariana decided to stay off social media for awhile.
