Hadley's POV
As we traveled down the mountain I almost fell three times. I am really starting to hate mountains. The sun was starting to go down and that is when all the snaketooths come out and their bites hurt really bad. “Umm shouldn’t we be trying to find somewhere to make camp,” I asked.

“I have a hidden camp coming up here in about 15 feet,” Forest started.

I wondered why his name is Forest. He has floppy blonde hair, that almost looks white, and had icy blue eyes. That if you looked into long enough you would freeze. He wore rawhide pants and a leather jacket somewhat like mine. His hat made him look like he was ready for an adventure at any moment. His gloves made him look like a really good at climbing trees. “We’re here just follow me up this tree,” Forest whispered, “I need to pack it up so I can bring it with us. But you guys can rest.”

Lizzy's POV
I’ve been staring at the Forest kid ever since we started climbing down the mountain. He’s just so cute with his icy blue eyes and and his white blonde hair. I liked how it flopped around when he walked. His gloves made him look like he was an expert climber. His hat make him look even cuter.

When we were laying down in Forest hideout Hadley rolled over and look at me. “You like him,” she whispered to me.

“And you like Florence,” I whispered back.

Her face became flushed with red. I’ve learned not to let my emotion take control of my facial expressions. So there is no she would be able to tell that I was blushing also. “I do not,” she whispered back.

“Oh then why are you always looking over at him,” I whispered.

“I don’t always look over at him,” she whispered back, “and when did this become about me we are talking about you.”

“Well you’re more interesting than me,” I whispered back, “but hey I do like him. He’s cute with his icy blue eyes and his white blonde hair. His adventure like style.”

“You really do like him,” she whispered back to me.

Florence's POV
I noticed Lizzy and Hadley were laying next to each other talking. But nowadays I am always noticing those little things. I decided I was going to go help Forest do whatever he is doing. Honestly I am not even sure what he is doing. “Forest, what’s you doing?” I asked.

“Just packing up the most important things here,” he said looking over at the girls, “Florence, what do you think they’re talking about.”

“With them,” I replied, “You’ll never know.”

“How much do you know about the one wearing shoes Lizzy?”

“Her not very much,” I started, “I only really know that she just closed. She doesn’t open up to very many people.”

“What do you have going on with Hadley?” he asked.

“Nothing going on there,” I replied, “and nothing will ever be happening there.”

“I’ve seen how you look at her,” he replied, “she even looks at you when you’re not paying attention. Like right now she’s just staring at you.”

I looked back at her and saw her hopeful green eyes staring right back at me. Her beautiful sun bleached brown hair was down making her eyes look even greener. My face probably looked like I was stunned. I’ve never seen so beautiful eyes before. “Are you still sure it’s not going anywhere?” He asked me.

Owen walked over here. “What are you two talking about?” Owen asked when he got there.

“Well he’s drooling over your little sister,” Forest said.

“No I’m not,” I said looking back at them.

“Florence, it’s fine,” Owen replied, “Just as long as you don’t let anyone take her away.”

Hadley's POV
When Lizzy said I liked Florence I finally realized how much I actually liked him. I looked over at him and saw his chocolate brown curly hair. The way the light hit it made it look even darker. Which his hair was already really dark. When he looked over at me his hazelnut eyes looked straight into my eyes. I could look into his eyes for hours. He started to head over here. When I saw that he was heading over here I turned away from him and laid down. There was no way I would be able to tell him that I liked him. I might as well fake sleep. “Florence we know your here somewhere,” Gerdad yelled from the ground, “Give me the girl and I’ll let the rest of you guys live.”

“N-n-no, not them,” I stuttered as I started to shake.

I started to think back to the healing cave when Gerdad came at me with a knife. Florence blocked it though. So I didn’t get stabbed. I could still feel his hands wrapped around my throat. I was pretty sure he was trying to kill me. “Florence, just let her go and I’ll let you back into the tribe,” Gerdad yelled.

By that time tears were streaming down my cheeks. That’s how scared I was. I pulled Flana into my arms. “Remember how to stay calm,” Lizzy whispered to me.

“To stay calm sing a little song,” I whispered back.

I started to sing a small tune that I made up three years ago. Forest started to run around throwing things in satchels. “Why do so many people want, Hadley?” Forest asked.

“Because the planet trusted her with the location of the Jewel of Marnik,” Owen said frantically, “Hadley, get Flana in a satchel and get out meet up on Yonders River. Lizzy go with her.”

“Umm I don’t think that is a smart idea,” Lizzy said, “I’m not good in the trees.”

“I’ll go,” Florence volunteered.

“Get out of here and quick,” Owen demanded.

We left in a hurry I barely had time to grab my satchel. I knew Florence was good in the trees and I’ve seen how bad Lizzy is with balance and heights. Plus the best way out of there is through the trees. I guess Florence is the best choice t come with. I’m pretty sure that Gerdad and Luke are on the ground so therefore the trees are the best escape route.

Lizzy's POV
When Florence volunteered to go with Hadley, my plan was going exactly as planned. I just needed to make sure that Gerdad and Luke didn’t intervene with my plan. I was pretty sure that it would work if I stalled Forest and Owen long enough for Florence and Hadley to be together long enough to actually express their feelings to each other. “I know that you are good in the trees,” Owen said, “Why’d you say you weren’t.”

“Because I decided that I didn’t want to leave you,” I lied, “Plus you need a distraction to distract Gerdad and Luke while we give Hadley time to get away.”

“You little genius,” Owen said, “You did it on purpose to make Hadley and Florence spend time together. If Hadley doesn’t show true happiness she can’t find the Jewel. Well Hadley we should probably give you to Gerdad so he doesn’t kill anyone.”

I jumped out of the trees right in front of Gerdad. “Well looks like Florence would sacrifice someone else to save himself,” Gerdad replied.

“Where’s Luke?” I asked.

“Looking in the trees to see if anyone left,” Gerdad replied, “Because I am pretty sure you are not the real Hadley, Lizzy.”

Gerdad pulled out the blade he stabbed Florence with and put it up to my throat. “You can’t trick me,” Gerdad insisted, “The real Hadley wouldn’t have come down here she would have run and try to get away from here as fast as she could. Now tell me where she is going or you’ll die.”

“Never,” I managed to mumble, “If I told you I would pretty much be giving you the Jewel of Marnik and my sister’s life. If I tell you, you will destroy this planet and everything on it.”

The blade was pushed harder into my neck. “I guess you chose to die after all,” he said as I passed out from the pain.
