Warning: This chapter is heckin long (and I'm really not joking when I say that, this is probably long enough to be in its own book LOL) There's also gonna be some canon divergence near the end for obvious reasons and if you squint you'll probably catch some Yu Boys x Reader bits in this~

(Flashback)

You didn't expect today to be so hectic, that is, until you remembered what exactly was going on. Another one of those duel championships was going to be held in the newly remodeled arena in your city. Duelists from all over the country were arriving since it was going to be the first dueling championship with real solid vision. And you had a man named Leo Akaba to thank for that.

Speaking of that genius inventor, it was actually his daughter Ray that made you go out into the crowded streets today. You two had been good friends for a couple years now, and about a week ago she asked you if you could help her fix her duel disk for the upcoming tournament. Since her father was busy making more 'revolutionary technology' and you had a knack for building and fixing things, you agreed to fix it instead and promised to get it back to her before the championship began.

And now, here you were trying to walk through hordes of people in order to get into the arena where she was waiting. You tightly gripped your bag that held her duel disk, not wanting to accidentally drop it into the crowd, and did your best to maneuver through the streets. After what seemed like an eternity, you finally fought your way through and made it to the main entrance of the arena. You sighed in relief and walked inside.

"Alright, Ray said she'd be waiting somewhere around here." You walked around and looked in every direction. There were still so many people, some duelists and others just spectators.

"She could've at least been specific, it's going to be impossible trying to find her at this rate." You should've figured that the place would be crowded and gotten her duel disk to her earlier, but repairing it and making some improvements took a lot longer than you anticipated. "I need to find her quick or else she won't be able to participate." You gritted your teeth and ventured into the crowd again.

"But where could she- ?" You stopped when you saw a small group of duelists being escorted to another room by Security. And that's when you realized it, the participating duelists had to wait in a room specifically for them. 'Of course! She has to be there!'

You grinned. "So I just have to get into that room somehow." But of course that wasn't going to be an easy task. Getting through Security here was tough, and there were strict policies about keeping spectators and duelists in their own respective areas.

"If I just blend in with some of the participants, I'm sure I could get through." You took out Ray's duel disk and strapped it on your arm. You weren't exactly a 'serious duelist' like some of the others here, it was more so a hobby since you preferred to make and build things, but that didn't stop you from executing your plan.

"Hm, this isn't much of a disguise." Anyone could wear their duel disk in public and the Security here probably had some way to tell who was a participating duelist and who wasn't. Well, there went that plan.

"Maybe I should just hide behind some of the participants and try to sneak in with them." You contemplated the thought and took another look around the room, hoping to find some more tournament participants. It was pretty ridiculous that you actually had to find a way to sneak in but the championship was going to start soon and you needed to find Ray quick.

And that's when you finally spotted another group entering the arena. They spoke to the Security and showed them some kind of I.D. Once they did they were quickly escorted to the restricted area where the other participants were.
