After the...incident, I tired to completely avoid the dark haired prince for as long as possible. Instead of attending meals, I would sneak into the kitchen at odd hours. I would go to the library when the others were at dinner. I changed my whole schedule to avoid the youngest prince of Asgard. I was so embarrassed for crying into his back like he was my best friend. I barley knew the man. It was beyond mortifying. I never wanted to show my face to him again.
It was late evening, and I was currently curled up into the corner of a loveseat in a dimly lit corner of the ancient library. The dying light from outside the window, and the small lamp on the end table was the perfect amount of light to read. I yawned and propped my chin in my hand, my eyes skimming over the words on the page. I had been so focused on my book that I hadn't noticed someone had come into the room until they were speaking.
"You've been avoiding me," the familiar cold voice said. I jumped and looked up, eye wide in fear mixed with shock. I let out a heavy sigh of relief, closing the large book I had in my hands. Loki stood before me, his arms crossed over his chest and his face fixed in that normal deep scowl. I couldn't meet his eyes, knowing his accusation was correct.
"I haven't been avoiding you," I said, standing up. Loki immediately moved back to give me room.
"Then where have you been?" he hissed angrily, surprising me. "It seems you have changed your entire schedule to avoid me," he pointed out. I opened my mouth to argue, but he cut me off. "Don't lie to me," he snapped. "I am the god of lies. You may think you can outsmart me, but you can't. You won't be able to." I glared at the man in front of me, not sure of what to say.
"What does it matter to you?" I asked, looking up to catch the green eyes of the younger prince. His face remained impassive.
"After that little stunt you pulled, I can't be too sure about anything," he said smoothly. I groaned internally. "You has the entire palace guard uprooted from their duties and training. It's only understandable for me to wonder where you've run off to." I dropped the book to the couch behind me and crossed my arms over my chest, trying to come up with something to say, but nothing came. "Why do you try to lie to me?" he asked.
"It was embarrassing," I snapped loudly. I saw his eyes widen at my sudden outburst, but he quickly regained his composure. "I cried in front of you like I've known you all my life. It was embarrassing and left me vulnerable. I've never cried in front of anyone other than friends or family, and you are neither!" My voice had risen in volume, and it shook with anger.
When I realized what I had said, I pulled my hands to my chest. I tried to take a step back only for my knees to hit the couch, causing me to stumble. I fell back onto the couch and immediately put my head in my hands. A moment later, I felt a hand on my shoulder, resting so softly that it seemed to ask permission to be there. I looked up to see Loki crouching next to me.
"Sorry," I said. "I keep saying things I don't mean," I told him, a rueful smile on my face.
"It's alright, (Y/N)," he said softly. "I know," he whispered. I took a deep breath and looked up.
"Friends?" I asked hesitantly, my shoulders rising a little. Loki smirked slightly at my question.
"I suppose," he said with that smirk of his playing on his lips. He offered a hand to me which I took. He pulled me up, and I grabbed my book wrapping my arms around it protectively. "Are you hungry? Have you eaten dinner?" he asked, leading me out of the library. As if on cue, my stomach rumbled slightly, reminding me that I had not eaten much that day.
