It was midnight. The crescent moon had risen not long ago. Niphredil had stood in the highest place in Imladris. It was the alcove where Gandalf, Elrond, Saruman, and Lady Galadriel had consulted 60 years ago about Thorin Oakenshield and his company. She had seen Gandalf earlier that night and had heard about Saruman's treachery and that was something that made her so worried.

At the edge of that place, at top of a few stairs, you had the whole valley under your feet. Niphredil had a cloak on her shoulder that had a color of a clear sky of a summer night. She heard a noise and turned. She saw Aragorn, busy with cleaning his pipe, coming there. He raised his head and immediately halted after seeing Niphredil. "My lady!" He said and bowed and turned to leave.

"The ring of Barahir," said Niphredil with a soft voice. Aragorn stopped and looked at his finger. "Given to him by my kin, Finrod Felagund." Aragorn turned to her. Niphredil held out her hand. It was like Aragorn was enchanted by her power. He took off the ring and placed it in her palm. To his surprise, the ring's Emeralds began to shine immediately, like the sunlight passing through newly opened leaves of a beech tree.

"for years, great and brave kings of Athani had this ring," said Niphredil. "Beren, Dior, Elros, high kings of Númenor, kings of Gondor. All mighty and powerful. All who have done great things and have led their people in dark hours and came out of each one with victory." She looked at Aragorn who was watching the ring, amused.

"I don't deserve it. I'm weak. The same weakness is in my veins too. I'm not like my ancestors." said Aragorn and took a step back.

"Maybe you are, maybe you are not. It's up to you and what you choose." said Niphredil. She took his hand and placed the ring in his palm and closed his fist around it. "and that is your great advantage. You know the dangers and can avoid them." she said and raised his head with her finger and smiled at him. "Soon your time will come, Aragorn. Whether you like it or not, you have to face your fate, your fears. To lead your people, to ride against the enemy or flee from everything. You can be sure that you are not stronger than Isildur. Take a wrong step and you will fall." she said firmly. Aragorn just looked at her. "But you have something that he had not." she said and caressed the bright jewel on his necklace. "Trust your heart, Aragorn. for it's pure like the light of stars".

"what should I do, my lady?" Asked Aragorn desperately.

Niphredil smiled at him warmly. "Don't let the fear fill your heart, Aragorn son of Arathorn. You will find your way. Now go and rest and don't let the shadows to come in your mind. Let Undomiel illuminate your dreams." she said and kissed his forehead.

Aragon felt the waves of comfort ran in his veins. He opened his fist and looked at the ring. It was not shining anymore, but he felt a strange feeling of courage in himself. He clenched his fist and opened his mouth to say something, but when he raised his head, Niphredil was not there.
