at first
there was the soft
drip drop of rain
small whispy strands
dropping from the heavens
then
the thunderclouds rolled in
the rumble of thunder deep in my bones
the lightning flashes like staccato on the earth
the rain cascades now like sheets
of shimmering stardust on my skin
later
the thunder booms to a drum
the lightning flashes sporadically
the rain is relentless now
pounding against the roofs
of the organized houses
the water is up to my waist
ever growing, ever changing
the unmerciful pounding
of water upon rooftops
the water goes higher
up to my chest
my neck
my face
until my breath escapes me
and I am certain that I am....
