promises

butterfly kisses on dark skin
honey dripping from parted lips
all of it i sucked in like pure oxygen

your words spun gold from flax
your kisses melted reality
your hugs filled my emptiness
all of it i sucked in like pure oxygen

and then you left
caressing my face one more time
telling me a story for the last time
a lengthy kiss on my lips
and a drawn-out hug

when you left
you left your golden words behind saying,
❝i'll come back, i promise.❞

i waited
for you to come back
watching the hours tick and tock by
you fed my worst fears
when you never came back

with your golden words
you left a little fracture
in my heart
which broke a little more
when someone mentioned your name

but now i am better
the fracture is gone
and my heart is whole

and i have learned that
the moral of the story is this:
don't make promises
when you can't keep them
because it hurts like bee stings
prickling flower-scented skin

and i have learned thatthe moral of the story is this:don't make promises when you can't keep thembecause it hurts like bee stings prickling flower-scented skin
