Avonlea
The woods
8:20am

Anne raced down the patchy woodland trail as she tried to regain her composure and think through the events that had just unfolded. She was nowhere near comprehending what had happened when she heard the voice.

"Miss? Who are you?"

She recognised his husky warm voice. Gilbert. The way he used an old term such as "miss" got her romantic heart pounding.
She tried to ignore him and sped up.

As she walked she could feel the padding of his feet against the wooden floor, it felt as if all her emotions were heightened. She felt if she listened hard enough she probably could hear his soft breaths or maybe the sound of his heart pumping- she didn't stick around long enough to find out.

She was walking down the main road, Avonlea high school was in her view point. Safe haven- or so she thought.
Then it came again.

"Who are you?" The voice called this time the pounding of feet increased.

She stopped and turned around to see Gilbert Blythe, THE Gilbert Blythe standing a few paces behind her.
He smiled at her softly as his eyes glanced all over her.

"If I tell you my name will you leave me alone?" Anne snapped coldly- her heart pounding.

"Maybe.." he smirked, showing the deep dimples he had caved away.

"Maybe?" Anne repeated raising her eyebrow. She was having none of this 'maybe' business.

"Maybe." He repeated. His eyes gazing at her.

She rolled her eyes and turned back around- stomping her way towards school.

Maybe was just not good enough.
