Unmatchable. Unmatchable. That is the only word that Sophie's mind latches on to while she falls in a downward spiral. After everything she'd been through. All the challenges overcome, all the lives she's saved. They give her this? Why? The moment she giddily opened her scroll, she started falling. On her jump back home, she fell deeper. Once she made it to her room, she fell rock bottom. She would never go through the events that define your life as an elf. She would miss out like on so many things before.
And it was all so unfair. She had been lying in her bed for a day now, sobbing 'til she had no more tears left. Grady and Edaline had at first try to help her and ask her what was wrong. When they went to the matchmaking office, they finally understood. Back up the stairs they went and tried to console her but consolation was not what she needed. She needed time to mourn. So they gave her that time. Friends were not allowed to come and so for a whole day Sophie had intentionally isolated herself.
1 day turned into 2. On the 3rd, Edaline quietly entered Sophie's room where she was looking at her ceiling. "Why me?" she whimpered softly. "After all I did... Why?" Edaline struggled to formulate a reply. "Well... I dont know," she whispered. There was an akward silence. Then Sophie turned and faced her adoptive mother with puffy red eyes and disheveled hair. "Why does it have to happen to me?"
