Sophie fell. 3 times. Obviously, the anti-slip ice skates did not work on Sophie because she landed flat on the ice 3 separate times. The ice wasn't cold- it was strangely warm and glowing, but it was still embarrassing to fall after Biana was twirling around like a ballerina. They continued to skate off of the lake and back to the reassuring safety of land. There, the party was in full blast. The dance floor had been expanded and elves were dancing by the masses. It was a tune that Sophie didn't recognize- a live band played on a beautiful stage, blasting some catchy tune with upbeat lyrics. Those who weren't dancing were either eating at the standing tables, sitting around one of the many bonfires, or doing unspoken things in the shadows of the forest. Sophie shivered, not wanting to think about it. Everglen's property had heat gadgets placed strategically around the property so that no one would get cold. It felt like summer.
Fitz grabbed Sophie's hand and dragged her onto the dance floor. Sophie stiffened. She was not a great dancer, far from it. She awkwardly moved around until Fitz took her hand and twirled her around. She giggled and he grinned. They danced and danced and danced, Biana, Keefe, and Lihn eventually joining them to form a dance circle. Sophie laughed and shouted until her throat went raw. After 2 hours, she almost dropped from exhaustion and they all took a break. Walking to the nice seating arrangements around the bonfire, they got comfortable and Fitz and Keefe went to grab refreshments. "This is such an amazing party! Your parents really outdid themselves, Biana," Sophie gushed. Lihn nodded enthusiastically. "I don't know how they did it but it's pretty freaking amazing." Biana gave a smug grin. "The Vacker family always delivers," she said. She stood up, bowed, and fell into a fit of giggles. They were all adrenaline-filled and the euphoria was showing.
Fitz and Keefe came back with drinks and snacks. Sophie, not knowing what she grabbed but knowing everything in the lost cities tasted good, took an intricate glass, and swallowed the contents down. She gasped and coughed. Fitz sprang up. "Sophie? Are you ok?" Sophie wheezed but smiled. "I...*cough*... got a glass of...*hack*...fizzleberry wine... and it is NASTY!" she exclaimed. They all burst out laughing. Keefe had tears rolling down his cheeks. They all took deep breaths, trying to regain their composure. It didn't work. They laughed and laughed, for no reason at all. Sophie felt light-headed but wasn't worried. It was time to enjoy a wild party after everything she'd been through. Biana and Lihn later realized that they had also gotten Fizzleberry wine but Keefe just plucked it out of their hands to finish it. After they all drank a full glass of water and ate some sweets, they sprung up to go back to the dance floor.Sophie had never felt so reckless in her life. Sure, she did plenty of stupid things when dealing with the Neverseen; plenty of REALLY STUPID things. But acting up at a party? She had never done that. She danced and jumped, screamed and laughed, happy for once to be getting attention. She had lost her shoes, Biana's makeup had gotten ruined, and Lihn's hair had gotten completely unraveled. Keefe had torn his vest and Fitz had lost his tie. Both had wildly disheveled hair. Biana and Keefe were dancing strangely close together and Sophie could only think what was happening between them. Was that chemistry brewing? She couldn't tell because Fitz was the only one she really looked at. He was even more handsome when he was a mess and his eyes said all whenever he looked at her. Nobody had ever seen Sophie so loosened up, and it was a relief to see her so happy after years of stress and anguish.
It was 4 am when Sophie decided to stop dancing. Lihn was off with a very handsome elf with dark skin and bright blue eyes. Biana and Keefe were still going, getting increasingly close. Fitz and Sophie walked away, hand in hand, smiling and laughing whenever they would whisper jokes or comments into each other's ears. They entered Everglen's lavish entrance where just 7 hours ago the party had just begun. Sophie sat down and slumped on the grand staircase. The night had taken its toll. Fitz sat down next to her and they sat in silence. Sophie sighed in content. "That was really fun," she said. "Yeah," replied Fitz, "but the fun isn..." he stopped when they heard a crash. Sophie bolted up and summoned all of her inflicting power to be ready at a moment's notice. Fitz scanned the are and put a hand in front of Sophie. "Upstairs," he said. They ran up the steps and Fitz directed them left, then right, then up a small staircase that Sophie had never seen before. It was a shortcut to the third floor.
They ran up and landed on the guest bedroom floor. The pulled open the first door and quickly scanned the area. Nothing. Fitz ran in to check the bathroom and closet and Sophie searched the area for any active minds. There were 7 on this floor. Filled with anxiety, Sophie checked the next room, Fitz on her heels. They couldn't be back, could they? The second room was empty. Fitz opened the room and they heard a gasp. "Close the door, close the door!" someone said. Fitz closed it quickly, his face pale. "Nothing," he muttered. "Nothing broke. I've seen too much anyway," he said. Sophie burst out laughing and he scowled. "Next time you have a party, lock the doors," she suggested between fits of laughter. Then they grew serious. The next room was being used as a bedroom where 3 drunk elves were sprawled on the king-size bed. There was no sign of anything broken. "Fitz!" Sophie called out. She had found something. The hall closet doors were wide open and a bunch of beauty products lay broken on the floor. Fitz sighed. "So that's where Biana hides her other beauty products!" he exclaimed. Sophie glared and snapped her fingers. "Focus, Fitz!" she thundered. "Right," he muttered. The last door was to their right. They crept forward and pushed the door open. Sophie gasped at the sight.
Tam.
Dex.
In a passionate embrace on the room's enormous bed.
Oh, things certainly just got really messy.
