Sophie materialized in the foyer of Havenfield and heaved a deep sigh. Home, she thought. Dropping her things, she walked to the kitchen, calling out her parent's names. "Grady? Edaline? I'm home!" Silence. She looked out the window only to hear shouts and grunts. Grady and Edaline were in the middle of administering shots to Verdi, who was NOT happy. Sophie chuckled and ran out. When Edaline saw Sophie, she smiled and dropped the rope that was holding Verdi down. At that moment, the dinosaur squirmed and stomped around, roaring into the air. "Whoa!" exclaimed Grady. Gnomes were running around, trying to pin the beast to the ground. After a few minutes of scrambling, Verdi was pinned down and her shots were swiftly given. Sophie's adoptive parents walked out, covered in feathers and dinosaur slobber. "Want a hug?" taunted Grady. "Nooo!" Sophie shrieked, sprinting away. Edaline laughed as Grady chased Sophie around, eventually giving up. "We'll get cleaned up and then we can smother you with hugs," said Edaline. Sophie grinned and nodded, walking towards Luna and Wynn, who were stuck in their cages.

The baby Alicorns had considerably grown, now at their adult size with huge wings, but still had their child-like playfulness.

SOPHIE SOPHIE SOPHIE!! SOPHIE HOME! SOPHIE HOME!

Both had learned how to communicate with Sophie and loved their new talent. It gave Sophie a headache but she loved them with all her heart.

Hey, guys! I'm back!

SOPHIE OK? SOPHIE HOME!

This time it was Silveny, who trotted over to nuzzle Sophie's open palm. She opened their enclosure door and the baby Alicorns flew out, headed straight for the gorgodon's enclosure. "Oh no," exclaimed Sophie. "Not again!" The Alicorns' uncanny love for the dangerous animal could not be controlled, despite the fact that the gorgodon could eat them. Nevertheless, Sophie was surprised to see the gorgodon had walked up to them, sniffed them lazily as if to acknowledge their existence, and lied back down. That had changed since Sophie was last home.

SOPHIE OK? SCHOOL GOOD? SCHOOL?

Silveny had learned a few new words which greatly increased Sophie's ability to understand her.

School is good. I'm back for 2 weeks.

OK! GOOD! SOPHIE OK!

Sophie stroked her neck for a bit and headed back inside. There, Edaline was sitting on the couch, wet hair framing her face. Grady's face was still rosy from his shower. He walked over and hugged his adoptive daughter and Sophie relaxed in his arms. Sophie had once enhanced him and he was left very upset from the experience and in turn, hadn't wanted to hug Sophie for a while. Now, thanks to Sophie's mind trick to turn her enhancing off, he had returned to his full hugging-like self. Edaline walked over and they all group hugged. In her parent's arms, she felt safe. She forgot about school, about boys, all her worries. She was home.

"So, what do we want for dinner? Fayre fruit salad or mashed Undegers?" Sophie didn't know what was what so decided to go with the Fayre fruit salad. Edaline nodded and began cooking. Sophie sat on a stool as Grady peeled the fruit's skin and Edaline began boiling water. They spoke about school and how her classes were going. Sophie was overwhelmed as always. "Make sure you enjoy it, Sophie. Your gold levels only come once in a lifetime," said Edaline. "I remember my gold levels," smiled Grady. "A guy in my dorm was a guster and thought it would be a good idea to practice in our study room. Blew all the books off the shelves and made a royal mess," he laughed. They all chuckled. It was moments like these that made Sophie miss the calm of Havenfield, compared to the rushed anxiety up in the towers.

Fayre fruit salad tasted like Chicken pot pie and Sophie was quickly stuffed. Much to her dismay and content, Grady and Edaline had baked an assortment of Sophie's favorite desserts. Mallowmelt, custard bursts, fluffcreams, ripplepuffs, butterblasts, and a warm cup of cinnacreme to top it off. Sophie ate but after a slice of mallowmelt, 1 custard burst, fluffcream, riplepuff, butterblast, and half a cup of cinnacreme, she was stuffed. Seeing her queasy expression, Edaline laughed. "Did you eat too much?" she joked. Sophie groaned. Laughing, Edaline ushered her upstairs and into her room. There lay Iggy, in his cage, squeaking at Sophie, with beautiful silver fur, glistening and shining like a star. "Iggy!" Sophie exclaimed. She missed the little stinker and hugged him tightly. At that moment, he burped and a foul smell enveloped the room.

Sophie coughed and opened one of her windows. "Jeez, buddy, you have to control yourself. That's nasty." The imp flew to Sophie's pillow and settled down. She shook her head. Some things never change. She showered quickly and pulled on some silk pajamas. Settling in bed, she checked her imparter for any notifications. This became a habit every night, just to see if Fitz or Keefe had happened to send her something. Nothing. Sighing, she placed it on her nightstand. Nothing had changed, of course. What was she expecting?

Edaline and Grady came in to say goodnight. "We're so glad you're back home. We've missed you around here," said Edaline. Grady kissed her on the cheek and sat on the side of her bed. "Actually, we've been meaning to tell you- we've been invited to celebrate the solstice at the Vacker's. We'll still have our little party but the big shebang will be held at Everglen." Sophie stiffened. Oh no, she thought. This wasn't what was planned. Edaline noticed and stroked her back comfortingly. "I know you didn't end on the best terms with some of your friends but it's an opportunity to re conciliate. It'll be held on the 21st of December," said Edaline. That was 5 days from now. Sophie had 5 days to be mentally ready. "It'll be ok, alright? You were able to defeat the Neverseen, for goodness sake, a party won't be too much to handle," declared Grady. Sophie nodded and bundled into the covers. "We love you," they said. They both kissed her and wished her a final "goodnight" before they left the room.

Sophie was about to fall asleep when her imparter tinkled a 3 note tone. A notification. Sophie scrambled up, pushing Iggy off his position on her pillow. He squeaked in protest and Sophie gave him a look. A message had arrived. From Fitz. It was short and sweet and Sophie felt the familiar butterflies in her stomach.

I've missed you. Hope we can talk.

Sophie grinned but didn't know what to respond. She put the imparter back on her nightstand and scooped Iggy up and back onto her pillow. She pulled her covers up close and fell asleep to the sound of Iggy's snores.
