The breeze rustled the Panakes tree and created a soft melody only Calla could have summoned. Fitz was sitting beside Sophie, looking off to the ocean. He had a small smile. He turned toward Sophie who was looking down at her hands in her lap. He intently gazed at her and Sophie abruptly blushed red.
He looked away and smiled towards the sun. "The view is nice. From here." he said. Sophie stuttered in response. "Y-yeah." She suddenly felt very uncomfortable. "Look Sophie. I know something is up. Just tell me. Im your cognate." His eyes were full of such compassion she just wanted to get lost in them. "Well..." she began.
And she poured her heart and soul out. If Keefe were there he would have a wave of emotions that would engulf him. When she finished, her cheeks were flushed. Fitz was quiet and had his thinking face on. "Go ask them. The council. If they give you a dumb reply then forget them. Just follow your heart." He then laughed. "I just realized how cheesy that sounded." Sophie laughed and they began talking like old friends again, revelling in their memories.
They had to, of course, play base quest. "Girls vs boys! LETS GO!" shouted Biana. The guys groaned. "You quest first!" chided Lihn. She was very into it. They scampered off and chose a stump as their base. The game started and Sophie opened her mind. Keefe and Dex's minds were shouting their thoughts and in no time the girls had won. They played more rounds and they laughed, talked and had fun like normal teens.
It was late afternoon when they had to part ways. She hugged her friends but hugged Fitz slightly longer muttering a small "thanks" with him replying "anytime."
That night, as she lay still in bed, Iggy snoring peacefully in his sleep, Fitz entered her mind.
