Once food appeared, talking was unnecessary. The only time someone spoke up was to mention the delicious food or the decor but besides that, it was very morose. Lihn had obviously tried to conceal her teary, bloodshot eyes and same for Biana, who looked exhausted. Keefe had his pale lips in a crisp line and everyone showed signs of little sleep.

Sophie felt bad. She really did. This event ruined their perfectly balanced little world. Dessert passed with little more then small talk and Sophie ached to leave. "M gonna go to th' bathroom," Sophie mumbled. She grabbed her purse and walked out of the shining glass doors. She crossed the street, narrowly avoiding one if the many motorcycles.

She ran as soon as she got off the metro, running towards the hotel and tripped, falling on her hands and knees. She stood up, tears in her eyes, gasping for breath. Up the stairs of the hotel, to her room where she packed all her things up in her bag. Grabbing her home crystal, she looked around the hotel room, tears streaming down her face, and went home.

She arrived at Havenfield and both Grady and Edaline drop their tools to run to her. "They know, they know who I got and they're so upset, I ruined EVERYTHING. It's not fair, after everything I've done, everything I've been through. I cant do this anymore. I cant do this." She sobbed her heart out, her parents hugging her. She suddenly felt very small and vulnerable in her adoptive parent's arms, but safe.
And that was all that mattered.
........................................................................

She was cuddled in her huge bed, Iggy held close to her chest, listening to her sad playlist on her ipod. Her parents had coaxed what happened after she had calmed down. They fed her some mallowmelt, hugged her again and sent her up to her room. After a scalding hot shower erasing any trace of her stay, she got comfy and slept.

And slept.

And slept.

The soundest she had since Silveny had helped her sleep. She woke up and trudged down the stairs, dragging her blanket with her. She felt cold. No, she was just numb. "Goodmorning, Sophie! How did you sleep?" asked Grady, who was cleaning some dishes. Edaline looked up from the daily news scroll and smiled cheerfully.

"Mmmmfine." Her parents laughed and fed her a salad and pudding that tasted like bacon and eggs. "So, what do you want to do today. We could go to the beach... unless you want to stay here and help out." Grady grinned and Sophie grinned back. "I'm good. Let's go to the beach."

Grady and Edaline cheered and Edaline brought up a picnic basket she had hidden under the table. "Go get a bathing suit and we'll grab the rest. We... invited Dex since you never seemed upset about... anything he ever did. If that's ok." Sophie thought about it for not even a second. "Of course!" Her parents smiled and she scampered up the stairs. Sophie was slowly going back to being the little girl they adopted many years ago. Carefree, happy and with no worries in the world.

The bell rang and Sophie ran down the stairs. "Dex!" "Hey, Sophie! Glad to see you're ok. Kinda freaked out when you left, I thought the Neverseen was back, haha." He awkwardly scratched the back if his neck. "Yeah... sorry 'bout that... it's just that I had to get out of there." She explained walking him over to the living room. "Nah, it's fine. If I coulda left, I would've but I was stuck between Keefe and Fitz. I knew that if they got to close to one another they would get in a fight. They've been really aggressive towards one another, ever since..."

Sophie sighed. Another thing she ruined. Their friendship was filled with jealousy and Sophie felt bad. But it wasnt time to mourn the past. "Let's just forget all of that. Were going to the beach, for goodnes sake! Let's go!" Dex whooped as Edaline came in. "Ready?" She was wearing a flowy beach cover up dress in multiple colors with a huge hat and sunglasses. "You look rather glamorous for a day at the beach, doing you think, Aunt Edaline?" Dex joked. And so the fun began.

They lounged about, went swimming and Sophie got considerably tanner. Dex quickly built a huge sandcastle where Sophie was able to climb to one of the 9 foot towers and see the vast ocean. Grady participated, even Edaline who helped by supplying sand from farther down the beach. It made for a relaxing afternoon away from the craze of life, something Sophie didnt realize she had yearned until now.

The sun was setting and so they left. Back home, they played a board game and DeX went home. Sophie had a fruit salad that tasted like fish and chips for dinner then went to bed. She looked into the mirror and her eyes widened. Her normal pale skin was now golden brown, making her hair and brown eyes stand out.

The reason why her eyes widened was her tan lines. The bikini she had worn had left an ugly pattern and she laughed in spite of herself. It was nice to worry about x shaped tan lines rather then anything else. She peeled off the navy blue suit and took a long shower, then walked downstairs with a book. She knew Grady and Edaline always read before sleeping. She sat down and both of them looked at each other.

Grady moved to sit next to her. "So, we heard you lost your imparter..." said Grady. "So we got you a new one!" Edaline exclaimed, handing her a small package. "Dex tweaked it slightly..." Turning on the small button, she saw little app icons all over the screen. Youtube. Netflix. iTunes. Facetime. And an app store.

"He recreated a phone for me!" Sophie didnt know why she was so excited but she quickly hugged both her parents good night and went to her room. Opening the facetime app, she saw Dex, Biana, Fitz, Keefe, Lihn, Tam, Edaline, Grady, Alden, Della... and Mr. Forkle. She suddenly missed him with an ache in her heart but decided to call Dex.

D: So, you like it?

S: I love it! Thanks so much!

D: Hey, anytime, it was fun to make.

S: Honestly, I'm so sorry I've neglected you for the past couple years... after all, you're the only one who's come through for me EVERY time. Thanks so much.

D: That's what best friends are for.

S: I haven't played my part very well...

D: After everything you've been through, I'll cut you some slack.

Dex laughed and Sophie laughed with him. It was good to have him back. They chatted for a little while 'til it was time to sleep. Sophie lied down in bed, unable to sleep like always.
When she thought about it, Dex and her were always Best Friends but they were now officially reunited.

With that warm thought, she fell asleep to a night full of nightmares.
