"We're here." I announce while entering Noah's room. Joe follows closely behind.
The young doctor from before looks back and forth between Noah and I. "Alright, after signing these few forms you can take him home but somebody has to stay with Mr. Shaw at least until tomorrow morning because it's still possible that he has a mild brain concussion."
I smile, taking a short look at Joe. "That would be me." I chuckle. The doctor hands me two papers which I gladly sign.
"If anything happens, please call the hospital immediately. Otherwise, you can remove the tape in two days, Mr. Shaw. Your nose should be able to stabilize itself until then." He gives us a nod of farewell before disappearing through the door.
I step closer to Noah and let our fingers intertwine. "How are you feeling?"
He squeezes my hand carefully. "Good, honestly, just a bit exhausted... Let's go home. I can't stand seeing these plain walls anymore."
-
"Alright, there you go." I put Noah to bed and drop down beside him. "I'm glad you're okay."
Noah turns to face me. "I don't want you to worry about me, darling. I'm always gonna be be okay."
"How can you say that? Mark and Colin stop at nothing..."
Carefully, he brushes his thumb over my cheek. "Because as long as we're together I can't imagine anything that could bring me down."
The butterflies in my stomach erupt all over again as Noah leans in closer. His tongue brushes against my lips and it takes every bit of self control not to open my mouth. Slowly, I pull away from him. But Noah follows my movement and leans over me. "Noah..." I mumble against his lips.
With a low growl he breaks our kiss. "What is it?"
"You probably shouldn't overdo it. I mean your nose is still healing." I bite my lip unhappy with my own decision.
"Chloe, please, I can handle it. If I don't feel your soft skin on mine, my body will explode, doing way more damage." He kisses me again.
With a firm but careful push I force Noah to lay on his back. "If you really want to do this, we're gonna do it my way."
Noah raises his eyebrows as I remove my panties from under my nightgown. I toss them to the side and crawl on top of him.
"Just lay back and relax." I whisper seductively.
-
"Do you want some water?" Noah whispers kissing my forehead.
"That would be great." I smile at him as he gets up in nothing more than his boxers and leaves the room.
I get up to put some underwear on when I hear a loud noise from downstairs. "Noah? Is everything okay?"
No answer.
Carefully, I tiptoe down the stairs to find an empty kitchen. "Noah?" I shout again. Suddenly, someone grabs me from behind. He drags me outside towards a black van. "What do you want from me? Let go!" I scream and kick him but his grip only tightens.
"Time for payback." His voice, it brings back a thousand memories... how he first hit on me back when I was still with Mark, how he held me in place to do unbelievable things to me and how he started a fight with the one person most important to me. I freeze, suddenly noticing every disgusting breath on my neck.
After a while someone opens the trunk from inside and I can't believe what I'm seeing. Inside of the trunk there is Mark smiling mischievously. His hands are dripping. "Oh, don't worry. It's not my own blood, sweetheart. I told you this wasn't over."
"What?" My words only come out as a breath. Then I take a step closer. There's a body, it's completely motionless. My sight turns blurry in an instant. "Is he...?" I don't dare finishing the question as Colin lets go of me.
I rush to the dead man's side but his face is unrecognizable. "Noah?" I whisper once more. The only sound is the slamming of the trunk lid when my vision turns black.
I'm wide awake, my eyes torn open. Somebody is holding me tightly. "Darling, everything is fine. It was nothing more than a dream."
"Noah?" I ask breathlessly.
"I'm right here." He softly caresses my cheek as I turn my head to look into his familiar eyes. Noah tucks a strain of my hair behind my ear before kissing my sweaty forehead. "I don't want you to worry about me, okay? We're safe."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that. Mark and Colin are still out there, only waiting for an opportunity to hurt us." I watch Noah closely, his eyes filled with pain.
"But I am because first thing tomorrow I will go to the police and tell them everything even if it means losing you." He brushes his thumb over my lip.
"You could never loose me, Noah. I love you more than anything."
To my discontent he removes his hand and moves away from me. "Do you remember the secret I couldn't tell you, the reason I thought we could never be happy together?"
"Yes, of course. But it still doesn't matter to me. There is nothing that could make me love you any less." I attempt to kiss him but Noah keeps his distance.
"Don't say that. This is probably the hardest thing I'll ever have to do but you deserve to know the truth. And if I don't tell you, someone else will."
"Noah, you're scaring me. What could possibly be bad enough to separate us?"
Right as Noah opens his mouth, my phone starts ringing. It's Aileen. "I think I should get that." He just waves in dismissal.
"Aileen? Why are you calling in the middle of the night?" All I can make out is sobbing on the other end of the line. "What's wrong?"
"Can you please come over? I need someone to talk to!" She whispers in between sobs.
"I'm kind of in the middle of something. Why can't you talk to Joe?"
"I just can't..."
I take a deep breath. "Alright I'll be there as soon as I can." Immediately, the line goes dead. "Noah, I'm so sorry but Aileen really needs me."
He roughly bites his bottom lip. "It's fine. We'll just talk tomorrow."
"I love you." I whisper shamefully while leaving. Noah doesn't answer.
