I sit on the couch, watching the Food Network channel. I watch some weird guy with glasses make organic taco pizza. The thought made me feel sick so I flip the channel some more until landing on some boring News channel.
"News again?" My older sister, Piper, asks while sitting next to me.
"They keep a safe distance from each other. And who doesn't love depressing stories about how our society is falling apart?"
She laughs and pats my knee.
"So..." She says, looking up at me, "Do you think this support group will help any?"
I shrug, "I hope so..."
"I'm sure it will."
"But what if it doesn't?" I ask her, "What if they can't help and I'm stuck being this freak who can't stand touching."
She gives me a sympathetic smile, "Ash, you're not a freak."
"I feel like one." I admit, a frown forming on my lips.
She frowns as well and looks down at the floor.
"You know, Ashton," She speaks up, "I'd rather have you with your problem then not have you at all..."
I shrug, "I know."
"And so what if you can't have people touch you... or you can't touch people. You can still have a life-"
"How am I supposed to make friends? Or- or have kids-"
"Ash, you're gay you can't have kids."
I chuckle lightly and looked down, before whispering, "No one who has this problem can live a normal life.."
She shrugs, "No. But we've had a pretty fun life."
I look up at her and tilt my head.
"Like remember that time the neighbours had their grandkid over and he wanted to play with you. And you two played tag and you demanded mum to bleach him or else you wouldn't play." She says, laughing.
I snort and nod, "She didn't do it..."
"You can't bleach a child, Ashton!" She exclaims, still laughing.
I sigh and smile at the ground. She rests her hand on my knee and taps her fingers against it.
"So we'll take it day by day. And if you get better, then that's great. But if you don't... just remember it's not the end of the world." She says.
I nod and smile at her, "Thanks Piper..."
She smiles back, "No problem, Ash."
