I laid in bed the following day staring up at the ceiling. Piper was almost all done packing and I barely started. Even though everything is already neat and all I'd have to do is put it in boxes.
The rest of the house is completely cleared. It's scary walking around and hearing the voices echo off the wall.
My door swung open and Piper came in with a few boxes and a backpack. She started pulling out my drawers and the clothes in them.
"What are you doing?" I asked, sitting up.
"Where are your pajamas?" She asked.
"Top drawer, can you tell me what you're doing?"
"Since you're not packing, I'm doing it." She said before going to my closet, "Take that shirt off."
"What?" I asked.
"Take that shirt off. Put this one on." She said handing me a Tshirt then grabbing one of my jean jackets, "Put this on too, it's cold out."
Before asking any further questions I did as she asked. She shoved some more clothes into my backpack and a small blanket.
The doorbell rang and Piper stood up from where she was crouched down near my bed. She turned me over and helped put my backpack on before fixing my hair.
"Okay, let's go."
"Who is that?" I asked following her down the stairs.
She opened the door and the devil herself, Jinger, smiled happily at us. She gave Piper a hug and waved to me.
"Is he ready?" She asked.
Piper nodded, "It's enough to last him through the night so I'll have to bring the rest of his stuff to him later."
"Wait what's going on?" I asked for what felt like the millionth time.
"Okay great. C'mon Ash we should get going." Jinger said moving away so I could walk through the door.
"Piper-"
"Ashton we'll explain everything once we get to the car but we have to hurry." Jinger urged.
"I'll see you soon okay. This isn't goodbye." Piper said, close to tears.
My heart was beating out of my chest as Piper pulled my into a hug then nudged me out the door. Jinger lead to me a small car and opened the door for me.
I watched Piper out the window as she waved to me then walked back inside the house.
"Where are you taking me!" I snapped at Jinger.
"Honey, relax-"
"No I'm not going to relax! Tell me where the hell we're going or I'll... I'll call the cops."
Okay, that was a horrible threat but I haven't got much to offer in the first place.
"You're going to your new foster home." Jinger explained.
"What about Piper?" I asked suddenly feeling another lump form in my throat.
"Don't worry about her-"
"Stop trying to sugar coat it! Just tell me why she isn't with us."
Jinger sighed and said, "Piper didn't want you guys to be far away from here so decided that we'll put you in foster homes closest to here... just not together."
I felt my bottom lip quiver as I looked down, "So I'm going all by myself?"
"You'll see her, Ashton. Don't worry. This is a nice home you'll like it here." She said, "Promise."
I shook my head, "You can't promise me anything."
