I was just staring at the ceiling while I heard the yelling that I was so accustomed to. I always used to hope to wake up with noise but that's my life. I didn't even need an alarm clock in the slightest bit because I had my parents. I forced myself to get up from my bed and that's when I felt a powerful kick and me grabbing my stomach in pain. I quickly rushed to the bathroom and I gripped the sink clinching my teeth together. I felt my mirror getting all fogged up and I just messed with my ring that was on my face. I saw a scene being played out in the mirror and I saw this six year old being pushed down. I backed away from the mirror in shock and I covered my mouth while I watched this six year old get beaten up by older kids. I saw bruises slowly showing up on my skin. Every punch, every kick I felt and the evidence was shown on my face. I looked up and the boy was passed out but I had a feeling he was alive. He had to be because if he wasn't then that meant that I would signally killed a little boy by watching him get his butt beat up. I did nothing. I slowly slid down onto my bathroom tiled floor while sobbing into my hands. I looked outside to see my dad was driving off and my mom was chasing the car down the street in her pajamas. I looked up and the black eye was slowly fading away.
I looked at the time before going back into my room and I sat down on my bed while pulling out the book about Greek mythology. The pages were still ripped and torn but I constructed it to make it able for me to read. My bedroom door opened quickly and I saw mom standing there huffing and puffing. She sat down next to me while looking over my shoulder.
"Is there something you want" I asked her and mom just continued to stare at me.
"You look just like Apollo" Mom patted my shoulder before leaving me all alone in my room. I looked down at my phone which was blowing up with texts from Autumn. I told I wasn't feeling well in the slightest bit. I walked downstairs to see that mom was sleeping on the couch and I put a blanket on her before I went to the fridge to get some food in my system. I made some coffee before I sat down in a chair next to the couch in the living room. I looked around the pictures that was hung up most of the frames were cracked from the times that my father's heavy footsteps caused them that way. I had to wonder why didn't we replace those pesky broken frames. I heard a sigh and I turned around to see my mother reaching a cigarette that was on the table. She had stopped smoking but she had a relapse to those cigarettes. It was pointless to argue with her about those stupid cigarettes. Mom and I just looked at each other before the smoke filled the living room and I grabbed a cup of coffee and placed it in front of mom before going outside to the backyard which was nicely decorated due to my mother. I watched the clouds move and I took a deep breath. I smelled the signature Coco Chanel perfume that had to belong to my mother. She sighed and she put the cigarette out.
"I know you don't like it when I smoke" Mom commented to me and I didn't respond I just stared forward watching the garderners working on our yard.
"What happened this time" I asked her and Mom just shook her head trying to ignore my question.
"It doesn't concern you. You are too young to get into adults' discussions" Mom patted my shoulder.
"No, it affects me. It's always been this way since I was 4 years old. I learned that this is normal. It's not" I stood up from the bench I was sitting on in the backyard. Mom didn't say anything but I saw the tears clouding up her eyes, I could see the bags, the red eyes and that's when I knew what my dad did was ruining my mother.
"Your father was having an affair" Mom exclaimed to me and I just stared at her not shocked. I always knew that mom and dad were always cheating on each other. I thought mom knew that dad was nothing more than a cheat. I mean he was so not careful in covering his tracks, like the time he came home with makeup on his shirts or another girl's perfume or heck even when the girl called the home phone. I know I was supposed to comfort my mom but one look at my mother's face. She knew I knew.
