The week following the entrance exam seemed to last forever so Midoriya did what he did best. He thought.
"Okay, before you shoot me down, just hear me out Kacchan" He mused from the dinner table where he was writing away. Bakugo paused the game on his phone, turned up his aids and looked up from the couch with a scowl
"This isn't gonna end up like last time you had one of your bright ideas is it?" he snarled "Do I need to call Auntie again?"
"Okay that time was an accident. Nobody even died!" Izuku protested.
"Just tell me before I decide with my better judgement and ignore you"
"Alright, alright" he took a deep breath "You know how you always tell me to level the playing field? Well, what if I could?"
"... I don't think I'm following" Bakugo replied, sitting up "What are you talking about?"
"When it comes to quirkless hand-to-hand, I'm pretty much the best out there"
"I wouldn't go that far-"
"So what if I could render my opponents quirkless? Actually level the field?" he exclaimed. Katsuki sat there in shocked silence
"WHAT THE FUCK??!" he shrieked, realization dawning, but Izuku was on a roll, waving his hands around excitedly, green eyes glinting with a crazed enthusiasm
"There are drugs out there that enhance one's quirks, and if those are possible to create, why can't I make one that does the opposite?"
"FIRST OFF BECAUSE IT'S ILLEGAL-"
"The only problem is, most of the time those enhancers are made using someone's quirk. And, obviously, I don't have one of those-" He barreled right through and Bakugo started to panic
"HANG ON-"
"I mean there are quirk suppressant handcuffs so I know it's possible but then there's the issue of it falling into the wrong hands or being copied so I need a way to make it without it being able to be replicated easily and then figuring out the science behind all of it because quirks are basically just mutations, glitches if you will, in the DNA-"
"DEKU!!" Katsuki started getting up
"But it hit me!" he gave his friend a terrifying grin, one the blonde had only ever seen when he was writing away in those dreaded black notebooks. "What's one way of making sure a recipe can't be stolen?" the grin stretched wider and he tried to repress the shudder running down his spine
"...how?" he whispered, not really wanting to know the answer. Izuku got up and spun around giddily, laughing manically
"Use an ingredient they can't access!" he gestured to himself "How do you nullify a quirk without a quirk? You don't! You hack around it!"
"You're off your rocker you know that?" Bakugo sighed "This is a shit idea. Get rid of it."
"Too late!" Izuku laughed, holding up his notebook filled with calculations "I've already started."
"How are you gonna test them huh?" the blonde snarled and the other finally faltered "These are actual real people you're gonna be using this on. What if you kill someone?! Or take away their quirk permanently?!" Midoriya flinched and the smile fell from his face
"I know the risks Kacchan" he mumbled clutching the notebook tightly "But I just thought-"
"No. You didn't think." Katsuki snapped back before reeling in his anger "If, and only if you can create something that you are completely, absolutely, 100% positive whatever you make won't hurt anyone in any way." He hesitated "Then, maybe, you can try it out on a willing volunteer" Izuku looked a little more hopeful "But only if you promise it's safe got it?" he nodded
