Chapter five

Tris pov

"You're just so beautiful" Tobias whispers to me as we wait in line for ice cream on the boardwalk.

I hold his face and lean up to kiss him when someone calls his name.

"Tobias" the person says

It's a girl about our age. She has a little girl with her holding her hand. She looks shocked to see Tobias.

"Lauren?" Tobias ask and she nods

"How have you been" He ask her letting go of my hand and giving her a hug

"Good" she says

The little girl licks her ice cream and hides behind the girl Lauren.

"It's been so long" Tobias tells her and she lets out a laugh

"It has" she whispers

"So it was nice seeing you but we should get going" Lauren quickly says grabbing the little girls hand and tying to walk away when Tobias stops her.

"Who's this?" He says getting to the little girls height

The little girl looks so much like Tobias.

"Your sister" He ask looking up at Lauren and she looks down

"This is your daughter" she whispers and Tobias's eyes go wide

"You're joking with me" Tobias says standing up and crossing his arms over his chest

"I'm not" she says

"So this is my daughter and when were you planning on telling me. Wait is that why you left and switched schools" He ask

"I was young. You were young. I didn't want to make this complicated" she says nervously

"Lauren, I can't believe you would do this" He says angrily

"Can we talk outside. I don't want her hearing this" Lauren says referring to the little girl, who looks just as confused as I do.

"Tris. I'm sorry but can you sit with her for a few minutes. Lauren and I are going to talk" Tobias asks me stressed

"Yeah of course" I tell him

"Mommy is going to be right outside. Stay with this nice lady" Lauren tells the little girl and the little girl nods

Tobias and Lauren walk out of the shop to talk, leaving me all alone with the little girl. I nervously look at her and she nervously looks at me.

I walk to a table and she follows. I hold my ice cream and she lets hers drip all over the place.

"I'm tris. What's your name" I ask her

"Sophie" she says munching on her ice cream

"How's your ice cream" I ask her

"Cold" she giggles and I can't help but laugh at how cute she is.

Tobias has a daughter. I'm not even going to question it the girl is his because she looks just like him. I can't believe he didn't even know. I could only imagine how he's feeling right now.

"How old are you sweetie" I ask her

"3" she says holding five fingers up. So cute.

"Where is my mom" she ask me

"She's talking to... um... Tobias" I tell her

I'm not going to say dad because that's too much for her to process right now.
