A/N: I tinkered with the anime's original timeline... Enjoy!!
The emotional dilemma had Aizawa think twice of his decisions. Everyone knew him to be the rational and logical thinking being that he was yet this was the first he'd ever let himself be moved by things such as 'emotion'. For all he knew these 'emotions' that people had only blocked rational thinking. He had to be decisive and imperative with his decision especially in his professional careers as hero and teacher. Yet here he was... comforting his student, his supposed foster child that was crying in his arms.
It had always been his rule not to get too close to civilians especially during a job. Getting unnecessary attachments would just interfere with his work. In their line of work there had already been countless times where he wasn't successful in saving lives. It was hard. This was why he forced himself to be the rational man he's been known as today.
Curse Hizashi and Nemuri for teasing him. Curse All Might and Vlad for being so supportive. Curse Nezu for putting him in such a predicament. Curse everything and everyone that have been involved with all of this. And curse his heart for feeling so weak.
There was no backing out of this. Even though he was reluctant to use [name] 's feelings of loss and desire for love, it was the only way for his mission to work. Later that night, he had contacted the Shinobus to inform them about what happened. The pro had told them everything they needed to know to get her affections redirected towards them.
Aizawa felt guilty for taking advantage of the teen's weakness and yet he had to freeze his heart just to achieve the outcome he knew that [name] deserved. He froze his heart just this once. Results were all that he needed.
For the rest of the week, Aizawa had made [name] go with the Shinobus on her own. He distanced himself from her. Although he didn't actually leave them, the pro just chose to watch from afar. But truthfully told, he just wanted to get used to that feeling of slow detachment towards the child.
"Aren't you being too hard on yourself?", the silver haired man commented as he approached the hero with a beverage at hand. Usually he'd never accept an offer from a client during missions but he didn't really care anymore.
It was the day they would tell [name] about the adoption, the reason why she was taken to U.A., why she was put under Aizawa... all of it.
As both men sat quietly in the distance, the surrounding noises just filled the silence between them. "You know I'd still let her see you if the adoption goes as planned"
Aizawa took a sip of his drink and just stared at the pavement, his elbows resting on his knees. "That's not necessary. I'm only a stepping stone in her life. There's no need for us to get further involved with each other"
Shinobu's eyes widened with his glasses sliding down his face a bit. "Eraser... Don't tell me you..."
"She deserves a loving family instead of someone like me. The end result is all that matters" Despite his stern and nonchalant voice, the doctor could clearly hear the anguish from his words.
"I see..." being unsure of what to say next, Shinobu hadn't uttered anything else. He already walked a few steps away when a thought came in mind. "Hey Eraser. Do you know the driving force of human action?"
Aizawa gave a questioning look. Shinobu looked back at him with a smile and then went on his knees, bowing down. Now the pro was really confused and encouraged the man to stand up and not catch any attention but he didn't listen.
"Thank you for everything you've done!", the man said. And at that moment, the pro knew it was finally over.
Shinobu's wife and son came rushing when they saw a crowd with the teen not far behind. Aizawa took it as his cue to drive away the curious hoard of civilians gathering around. When everything was calm again, the doctor had her wife do the honor of explaining.
Shock and joy took form as tears when [name] found out the truth. To know that someone had gone through their way just to help her. She had never felt so much gratitude in her life. The teen looked back at her guardian to see if it was really true. With just a simple nod from the pro, all her doubt and suspicion disappeared.
"So would you let us adopt you?" those words couldn't make [name] any happier than Shouta could ever be. The child hugged and begged the teen, excited about the idea of having her as a sister.
There was a hopeful look that she gave towards her guardian as she asked for permission to answer. Aizawa took a deep breath, bit his lip and swallowed hard before he could answer.
No more hesitation. It's for the best. There was a soft look in his eyes unlike [name] or anyone could have ever seen. And the affirmation his gaze gave was the end of it all.
Days passed and the second term had begun. Due to a lot of violent reasons, both Midoriya and Bakugou were sentenced to house arrest having both of them be absent for the opening ceremony. But they weren't the only ones of Class 1A who didn't attend.
Because of the adoption, [name] was already asked to pack her things and get ready for departure. Since the Shinobu family was just on leave to see through to the adoption, they had to go back to the States once it had been settled. It was a heartbreak for her classmates after they heard the news but, at the same time, they were also happy for her.
Midoriya took it in himself to have her luggage brought down to the common room while Bakugou helped out as well. When everyone had come back to the dorm, a lot of crying, gift giving and number exchanging went on. But the ruckus immediately died when their homeroom came into view.
The pro was to escort [name] to the airport that evening and it was also Shinobu's way of having the two some alone time to bid farewell to each other. Of course Mic, Midnight and All Might didn't miss a chance to say their goodbyes to the child (with a few jeers to Aizawa here and there).
Tsukauchi had also volunteered to drive the two to the airport just for old times sake. It was also a bit ironic how both the pro and tue detective were the ones who had taken the child away from a certain mad scientist only to drive her to a kindhearted doctor that were actually brothers.
In the backseat, [name] was holding onto the pro's shirt whilst they drove ahead. Aizawa got a bit irritated with having his shirt pulled so he grabbed her hand and gave a gentle squeeze. His gaze were averted to a different place yet his attention was all on her. [name] adjusted her hand so that their fingers were intertwined. It was all too obvious for Tsukauchi but he had chose to let them indulge in each others' presence.
The detective stayed behind and let Aizawa do the rest. Being greeted at the entrance by the Shinobus was the sign the pro had that it was time to let go. Aizawa released his hold on her hand and acted in the same apathetic way he's always been. Yet his own facade was broken by a tight hug.
"Thank you very much for everything, Aizawa - san" her voice was muffled but he could hear every word so clearly. The airport was not the quietest place to be in yet everything else didn't matter at that moment. Both his arms moved on their own and reciprocated [name]'s hug with his own.
Goodbye, [name]...
