After Class B had joined in with the fray, the competition to see who's more stronger had heightened. All the students from the Hero Department had been furiously exercising every fiber within them non stop. [name] even took the initiative to help boost the other section as they came. Later that evening, they were even tasked to cook their own food as part of training - to be able to fill the stomachs and spirits of those exhausted during a disaster.
During preparation, some had noticed the excellent knife handling of [name] while she choped and sliced the vegetables with ease but let her guardian take credit for teaching her. It was something that most of her classmates couldn't believe since they already stereotyped their homeroom teacher as somewhat of the lazy type. The teen defended in his stead and countered whatever misconception they may have of the pro. Coincidentally, the subject of interest was pacing towards his foster child's direction.
"If you're done with your meal then I suggest you go clean up"
All those around [name] froze and immediately went rushing to clean their plates then go inside. On the other hand, the child just looked puzzled with her classmates' sudden change in behaviour.
"You should rest a bit before taking a bath", said the man as he sat beside her, his eyes looking another way with his hands in his pockets. "I can't have you passing out again due to fatigue. And besides, your body isn't used to soaking at the springs yet. It isn't the same as when we're at home"
It was true that [name] had miscalculated and overestimated her physical capacity but somehow she didn't feel scared. The fact that she almost died from drowning was a great shock... but she wasn't scared. Maybe, just maybe, it was because she knew that he would save her no matter what the cost. BUT... that was just a maybe. There was no way she would be so careless next time around.
"I understand. I'll be careful. Thank you, Aizawa-sa--- Aizawa - sensei", the teen then stood up and collected her dishes and whatever was left on the table and went ahead.
As she passed by her guardian on her way inside, the man had uttered something that only she could hear. She stopped in her tracks and looked back at him but the pro acted like it was nothing even though she heard him so clearly. The teen just gave a smile and went on ahead.
Aizawa could only watch her heading along inside, observing from afar. His fingers trailed across his lips and his mind played flashes of [name] 's conversation with Mandalay.
'Through hell and back', huh?
The next day, it was pretty much the same. Everyone had to wake up just after sunrise so they could start with their routine... except for [name]. When everybody else arrived to the grounds, the teen was already finished with warming up and was sparring with the muscled member of the Pussycats.
It was amazing how much energy she had despite being worked to the bone just like everyone else. The mental and physical toll on her was tiring enough but it was like nothing to her. The others were amazed and motivated that they joined in as well.
"You really disciplined her well", was a side comment from Vlad as they both watched the aspiring heroes. "I thought you've only been doting on her"
The latter just replied with an irritated flick of the tongue that was accompanied by a sneer. "Even if she's a girl, doesn't mean that I'll go easy on her. If she wants to improve then she has to work hard"
"I know, I know", the taller male chuckled in amusement. "If this keeps up then she'll be ready for that by the end of the semester"
With the mention of that certain topic, the smaller male went silent. His attention had suddenly been diverted to the 'extra lesson' group that had been lagging behind. And it did prove to be a distraction. He had to remind them that no matter what they did, they should always be aware of where they came from.
It was something that had struck Midoriya, Todoroki, Bakugou and [name] for the most part even though he was talking about all of them in general. But the moment the green haired teen mentioned the Symbol of Peace, his mood just worsened. Yes, he was grateful for all the help All Might had given along with Mic and Midnight but the guy was just too energetic and outgoing which was the complete polar opposite of himself.
By the time the sky dimmed and the moon came to view, everyone's stomachs had been filled and it was time that they do something typical during summer camp and it was... the Test of Courage. Although not all of them were too happy nor enthusiastic about the idea. Also, their trainers had made it a point that the simple activity would be a competition between classes.
Those who were excited about the activity had already began planning their strategy while they headed to the site. The mechanics were then given when they arrived.
"All right! [name] 's gonna be our trump card", one of the Class A boys suggested out loud. "She'll scare the heck out of those guys from Class B"
It sounded like a great idea for everyone that some had even asked her to use her quirk when their turn to scare the other class came. But the teen had felt her heart stutter from the sudden anxiety she felt just thinking about the idea. Even if it was just to frighten the others a bit, to use her ability in a negative way was too much to take in. The ten years of trauma still couldn't compare to the three months that she had been free. The peer pressure that suddenly arose clouded her ability to make a decision.
They were overestimating her capabilities too much. There was no such device that would be able to stop her if she accidentally used her quirk too much. On top of that, she had made a promise to Aizawa. But what if she didn't mean to break it? What if she ended up hurting her classmates? What if--?
"Enough", a stern order came from the stoic male. And as if on cue, Aizawa read the situation crystal clear. "That's not necessary. I have strict orders for [last name] not to use her quirk without my supervision. Since I'll be working with the 'extra lesson' group, I'll have her withdraw from the test of courage"
[name] had immediately been excused and was to join her guardian for that night whilst they carried on with their businesses. Aizawa had let his students lead the way back to camp while he paced just behind them to make sure that none of them would get any funny ideas of escaping their fates. He would also steal glances at his foster child whom still looked bothered by the details from earlier.
"When there are times that you're forced against the wall, its okay to back down. You know your own capabilities and you're the one who has the right to decide. They don't have the right to make choices for you. Don't let them think otherwise"
Aizawa's words of encouragement managed to get through the child and turned her mood around completely.
"I told you yesterday, didn't I? You're doing a great job"
A/N: Hey guys!! Tbh I really had a hard time on this one. Too many things going on in my mind. But I hope that all those unanswered questions you had from the last chapter is cleared up now. Also... I don't know if I can actually write the big fight during the training camp arc but I'll do my best for you guys 😁😁😁
