"How do we even do this?!......what do I wear?!" Ember exclaimed looking into her vanity mirror as Abby giggled behind her.
"Don't worry Em, J thought of everything all we need to do is get you dressed" Abby smiled now beginning to bustle around the room in preparation for Ember's photoshoot.
"It's been a while since I got glammed up even if it's for my own funeral speaking of which, don't let Harley know what we're doing I don't want to upset her" Ember began trailing off into a whisper as she looked towards her bedroom door.
"Don't worry Diamond is taking up all her time, she won't find out I promise"
"That's good, I just want her to be relaxed and back onto the path of happiness and we need a good environment for that to happen. After my operation I think we all need to bang our heads together and come up with ideas on how to stop all this hate against one another. We're constantly at each other's throats and it needs to end" Ember explained, a small frown gracing her face.
"I agree completely and I suppose for you I can put my personal feelings aside and like Joker" Abby sighed feeling her insides turn at the thought of the two of them getting along.
"You don't have to be friends with him, just tolerate him" Ember laughed watching Abby's facial expressions twist.
"Come on lets get you ready, he's waiting for us" Abby clapped reaching into an elegant large white box for Ember's dress."Wow Ember you look stunning!" Abby whispered staring at her friend in awe as she sat in her wheelchair looking more like a bride than a dead woman.
"He has good taste, I was expecting something for extravagant from him but this is perfect" Ember beamed at her best friend feeling beautiful for the first time in months.
"I'll go get him" Abby chirped giving Ember's shoulder a squeeze before rushing from the room.
Turning her chair Ember caught sight of herself in the mirror, she really did look beautiful but she looked like a bride on the best day of her life. Ember could feel the sting of tears in her eyes, she was never going to be a bride, she would never have that experience but at least she got to have two funerals that's an achievement....right?"My my don't you stunning little doll!" Joker purred suddenly appearing in the mirror behind her, a camera hanging low around his neck.
He looked relaxed and excited, practically bouncing on his toes as he leant down and placed a quick kiss on the back of her head. Ember tried to ignore the butterflies that bubbled inside her but she couldn't help it, she still loved this man.
"So what do you need me to do?" Ember enquired giving him a nervous smile.
"I need you to play dead while I do everything else" J huffed out taking the handles of her wheelchair and spinning it around towards the door.
"You know I can drive this bad boy by myself right?" Ember squealed with laughter as J began to sprint down the hall.
"Now where's the fun in that!" J chuckled feeling his heart pound in his chest as her laugh tickled his ears."Don't you think this might be over the top J?" Ember questioned, her eyes practically bulging out her head in shock from the view in front of her.
"It has to be believable little doll, I wouldn't throw you a cheap funeral if you had truly died would I?" Joker bit back sarcastically rolling his eyes Ember.
Gone was one of the guest room and instead it had been replaced by a wake. The room room from topper to bottom was littered in bouquets of white flowers wrapped in light gold ribbons. There were a serious of wreaths decorated with the words Ember, Mammy, friend and daughter, it was quite a chilling thing to see. In the middle of the room placed on a white marble crypt laid an ivory and gold open casket engraved with a serious of roses along the sides."Are you ready doll?" Joker gently whispered and as Ember nodded her head, he wrapped one arm under her legs and the other round her waist.
Lifting her into his chest he slowly walked towards the casket and laid her down inside.
"Comfy?" He hummed straightening her dress and adjusting her hair.
"It's cold....I don't think I like it" Ember whispered truthfully feeling uncomfortable with the way the frozen padding penetrated her skin, leaving goosebumps up and down her body.
"Don't worry little doll it's only for a few moments and I will get you out I promise, just shut your eyes and imagine you're somewhere else" Joker reassured her brushing his fingers down her cheek as she reluctantly closed her eyes.Taking J's advice Ember began to picture herself in the park playing with Diamond on a snowy day. She could hear other children screaming in delight as their parents pulled them around the park on sledges. Laying down beside Diamond Ember began to teach her how to make snow angels, laughing each time Diamond got over excited and kicked her feet. Letting the daydream take over, Ember fell into a deep sleep ignoring the click of J's camera.
"Little doll!"
"Little doll!"
"Ember wake up!"
With a startled gasp Ember quickly opened her eyes to see Joker looking over her in complete horror. His face looked paler than usual and........were those tears in his eyes........
"J you startled me!" Ember managed to get out as she sat up and looked at him in concern.
"You.....you fell asleep...." J replied swallowing the lump that was building in his throat and turning his face away from her.
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't know how long we were going to be.....J.....what's wrong? Are you ok?" Ember whispered confused but feeling her heart ache she reached out for him only for him to back away as if he had been scalded.
"Yeah I'm...I'm.....excuse me for a second my love"
And with that, J quickly hurried out of the room leaving a worried Ember behind. She couldn't even go after him, how could she get out the casket when her legs were as useless as a prostitutes panties.Outside in the hall Joker finally let himself break.
A choked scream left his lips and the tears began to flow freely shocking the henchmen that guarded the halls.
'Go get Frost!" Panda mouthed to one of the men and he motioned for the others to back up.
Turning towards the wall, J began to frantically slam his head into it repeatedly until he could feel a hot stream of blood running down the middle of his face.He needed to get that image out of his head, he couldn't bare to see it for much longer. His little doll had been laid in that casket looking so peaceful and still, it was as if she had died and no matter how much he told himself she was breathing J couldn't help but freak out when he couldn't rouse her.
It was in that moment that reality set in, he could of lost her, she could of died from the shooting and that casket could of been her resting place. In an instant his whole world could of shattered around him and she would of left thinking he was nothing but a violent cheat who didn't love her."Boss! What's happened?!" Frosty called out sprinting up the stairs to find his friend on his knees and a trail of blood running down the walls.
"I almost lost her Frost.....I.....almost....lost.....her....." Joker whimpered now slapping his forehead as the image came back.
"She's still here boss, she's still with you" Frosty tried to reassure him but it was no use."And what if she had died Frostyboy?! She would died all alone, without me, without Diamond feeling unloved and scared and it would have been all my FAULT! ALL THIS IS BECAUSE OF ME I PUSHED HER AWAY, I CHEATED, SHE RAN AWAY WITH OUR CHILD AND IN THE END STILL RISKED HER LIFE FOR MINE! After everything I've done she's still here, she still loves me even though she tries to hide it! Tell my Frosty why would she love the man who tore her heart in two and cheated?" Joker roared more tears streaming as he continued to hit himself.
"I cheated too"
The house grew silent and everything came to a stop as Ember's confession flowed out the other room like a thousand knives in Joker's heart.
