Darius
**A couple weeks earlier
I wake up with my mate cuddled to my chest.
I smile as I look down her, the events of last night parading my thoughts. Our first time... Even it was in a small, stuffy cabin on a pull out couch, it was better than I could've imagined.
I kiss her sleeping face before moving to untangle myself from her and the sheets. I need to stretch.
"Mhmm," she groans, clinging to me.
"Naya," I chuckle. "It's morning."
"So," she croaks. "I want to stay in bed," her brown eyes peer up at me, a blush covering her cheeks when she meets my gaze.
"We can do that but I know you and...you get hungry and restless."
"Just shut up and let me snuggle you a little longer, please," she breathes, nudging her face into the side of my chest.
"I'm still tired anyway," she yawns. In no time, she drifted back to sleep.
Even with the few hours of sleep that we'd gotten, I am wide awake. Once I'm up, I'm up. However, for my mate, I stayed in bed with her pressed to my side for another hour.
I remove myself from the bed, carefully so that I won't wake Naya. I can't stay in bed any longer, my limbs will cramp.
I grab a cup of grains, a few fruits, and a bowl of water and head outside to start a fire and heat the water. I notice the empty atmosphere immediately. I glance around with my face distorted into confusion and curiosity.
The rogue wolves are gone. All of them.
My other neighbors who usually would have a fire going, or dying out, were gone. I know because I can sense their empty presence. Their fire pits are also dead; They were never even started this morning.
Something isn't right.
I walk over to Daden's cabin, knocking on the door. After waiting a minute, I place my hand on the door knob and push it open. As I sensed, no one is inside. All of their belongings and food are gone along with them.
I left, checking the other two cabins. Joe, Rea, Issac, and Cary... They are all gone.
With a shake of my head, I walk back across the yard to my cabin. I toss the bowl of grains into the heated water and begin to wash the fruit, glancing around every thirty seconds are so. Where the hell did everyone go?
Did they decide they were tired of living like cavemen and just up and left overnight? If they did, Naya and I would've heard them; I mean we were up all night.
When the grains and fruit were cut, I fixed two bowls for Naya and I. I turn to go into the cabin and nearly receive a heart attack. The man—the mean looking one from yesterday had been standing behind me.
"Um..." I look at him with a tilt of my head, confused.
"I don't believe we've formally met," he sticks out his hand, showing me a bright smile.
I eye him skeptically before shaking his outstretched hand, "Darius."
My wolf is uneasy and that isn't a good sign. He doesn't like this suspicious man and neither do I.
