GEMMA
"You have disobeyed me, Gem." I hear Paines' voice.
"I haven't." I begin to say while trying to find him through these woods. "Rhydon just helped me out with a fight the other day. I swear I tried to leave today but, then I got a pain in my head for some reason. It felt ten times worse than a migraine. But I swear that I'll leave." I assure him.
Finally he comes and stands out from behind a tree across from me.
"No. In fact, this might be a good thing. You should stay and get all the information on him and his pack along with the council and then when I return, you can have more information to tell me and we can have a huge advantage for when we attack." He says.
He's the enemy. But on the other hand, I see what Paine is saying. I guess that it would be a huge advantage to us if I could get some more information on Rhydon and his pack. Then what about Graham?!
"Wait, what about Graham?" I ask.
"Don't worry about him. I'll make sure to keep him busy and distracted with a job I have for him to do in a couple states away until I return. And I know what has been going on between him and the way he has been treating you for one of the guys informed me just last night. And I promise that when I return, I will deal with him." He assures me.
"Okay." I nod in agreement.
"Good. Now wake up. It is time. And remember, no matter what, do what you have to do to make sure you don't get caught." He says.
I suddenly wake up and when I open my eyes up slowly, I notice an older man sitting beside me on the bed, while checking my heart rate.
I instantly move back against the headboard and cover myself up with the blanket after sitting up abruptly.
"Who the hell are you?!" I asked.
"I'm Rhydon's pack doctor. He called me and let me know you had bad head pains." He mentions in an British accent.
"Right." I tell him. "So what's the diagnosis doc?" I ask him.
"You're fine." He says after being silent at first for a moment. "I'll come and check on you in a few days. But if things get worse, please don't hesitate to call me." He says.
"Okay. I won't." I assure him with a small smile.
The moment he leaves and shuts the door behind him, I start thinking about the dream I had moments ago and what Paine had suggested I do here. I mean, it'll for sure get me away from everyone and everything, in particular, from Graham trying anything or even hurting me in any way as I know he wouldn't ever dare cross Paine. So I guess I could play along for a while until he gets back. It's just for a few weeks anyways.
After the doctor left, I heard a knock at the door and told whoever it was to come in. When I saw it was Rhydon, for some reason, I got excited a little inside. But why would that be? He's the enemy after all.
"Hey." He says sounding nervous as he walks to the end of the bed and looks at me nervously.
"Hi." I reply.
"How ya feelin'?" He asks me.
"Fine. Thanks." I reply.
We next share a couple of brief moments in awkward silence before saying anything.
"Listen, I know that you must feel uncomfortable being here and may want to leave, but...." He started but I stopped him.
"Look, I appreciate all that you've done for me and..." Before finishing I reminded myself in my head to play along and that I HAD to stay. "And I would like to stay if that's alright. I mean, with all the killings going on and since I have nowhere else to stay, maybe I can stay here with you a little while longer until I'm feeling better and good enough to leave." I suggest while trying to sound scared and like I need his help.
I then see a smile start to appear on his face and he nods his head in agreement.
"You are more than welcomed here. I mean, it'll be safer to be here than out in the woods." He tells me.
Great, another guy that thinks I NEED his protection. I guess I will just need to prove to him how much I'm not like other girls.
