Miracles in December

As a snowflake falls to the ground, your eyes follow it. Seated in the park during a chilly, frosty December without a coat is pure torture as every breath exhausts your lungs, slowly but surely.

But it's your heart that feels colder. In actual fact, your heart is so cold that you can't help but feel that it can never be back to its original, warm self. Although it already is.

A year. 365 days. Maybe even longer, for you had lost count long ago.

That was the time you had gone without seeing Kim Jongdae.

You probably wouldn't see that wide smile anymore. You wouldn't see those dear eyes of his crinkling perfectly into crescents. And most importantly, you wouldn't hear his laugh anymore.

Oh, his laugh. The deep chuckle that would come so suddenly that you would laugh at the absurdity of the timing. The laugh that made you want to laugh along too. The laugh that made you fall in love with Jongdae in the first place.

You were sure of it, Jongdae probably didn't even remember who you were, or the brief history between you both. But you did, so when he left Seoul to head to Oxford to further his studies, dealing with the memories were too painful to imagine. Headaches occurred more and more frequently and so often that you most likely suffered from migraines.

When doing everyday things like sprucing up the furniture, flashes of bright light would often render you helpless, causing you to grip onto the nearby sofa or table for the much needed support. The tingling 'sensation' (for it can only be rightly described as such, though the tingling is certainly nothing close to a sensation) in your arms and legs would only leave you with the option of heading to your room and calling it a day.

Your friends and relatives usually chided, telling you to see the nearest general practitioner, as soon as possible. You did eventually, after the headaches became frequent, everyday affairs, and the doctor could only find one cause — emotional stress.

The flashes of memories were worse, though. After he left Seoul, you packed all the photos of the two of you into a handy cardboard box, sealed it with scotch tape, and placed it in your cupboard. You didn't want to revisit those times or deliberate too much on the situation when you could possibly never go through those immense feelings of joy and happiness again.

But then winter came, and so did the bulky coats and the fleece outerwear, and you couldn't help but brush your hand against the little cardboard box sitting comfortably in the corner of your cupboard when you picked up the rest of your season's clothing. Brushing against the cardboard box is like a brush with fate, a brush with all the lost memories in the pits of your mind.

You remembered the time he wiped the wisps of cotton candy off your lips at the Busan funfair.

You remembered him saying the three words that would affect your love life, and his.

You remembered him pulling his dinosaur themed luggage bag along with him to the Incheon International airport, and his cheekbones lifting as he smiled a silent farewell, tears running down his cheeks, before stepping into the departure hall.

It was today that everything had come back to you in a rush, and it was today that you had forgotten to take a warm coat out with you. Even if you froze to death wearing only two layers of thin clothing, Jongdae wouldn't know, would he? He'd probably be partying away in the United Kingdom, instead of worrying about you.

You closed your eyes.

"I have to go," Jongdae was clutching the accepted application in his hands. "I can't just give up on this opportunity like that, my parents, they'll be upset with me."

"Don't go, please, Jongdae, don't."

"I have to, but I promise I'll come back one day, okay? I'll always love you...I'll send pictures to you everyday, we'll Skype, we'll chat, okay? It'll be...as if there isn't any distance between us."

"O-Okay."

Jongdae didn't usually break a promise. Or did he?

"Pabo."

Your eyes fluttered open and blinked repeatedly as you took in the sight that was before you. A taller (but not less handsome) Jongdae, his skin tan, his eyes bright and lively, overall looking better than before. Was this a mirage? An optical phenomenon by which you had yearned for Jongdae so much that a trick of the light fooled you into think he had come back? Did he really? After promising to come back after six months, did he finally come back after twelve?

But the hands that snaked around your neck as soon as you opened your eyes were more than real. Yes, the warm breath that you could feel on your face, the warmer coat that Jongdae had brought along as an extra wrapped around your body, and most of all, your heart, beginning to thaw as you closed your eyes for the second time that day.

Of course, it was him. If he had gone to your house after arriving in Seoul and had realised that you were not in, it would only be second nature to head to the park, for many times, the fluffy moments, the romantic memories, had been forged in this very place. And it was just his luck that you were there.

"I missed you so much..." He murmured, his lips grazing against yours gently.

You pushed him away cheekily, laughing. Soon enough, his laughter filled the air, and you realised, a year waiting to see him, a year suffering from all those migraines and headaches, a year without his laugh, a year doubting if his love for you remained unwavering, it was all worth while.

That December, a miracle happened, in the most unlikely of circumstances, when all hope was gone. You call that miracle, Kim Jongdae.

I'm sorry for the wait! I'll try to speed up the other updates, but if I forget to do your imagine, please private message me! I will now take requests for the holidays that start tomorrow. Toothpaste, I hope you enjoyed this imagine <3 @DanceInTheSilverRain :)

Well, I've been depressed about my end-of-year results lately, I did badly for Geography, but I'm still happy that my English has maintained at the highest grade possible, an A xD

Hehe. This holiday, I will be on a hiatus from the 15th to the 27th of November to go on a trip to Tasmania. Do any of my readers hail from Tasmania? Maybe I'll bump into you :3 I'll also be away from the 29th of November to the 3rd of December to travel to Batam. Things are relatively cheaper there, so I'll probably go around hunting for that Miracles in December album I desperately need.

Well, EXO's comeback is rumoured to be in the middle of November, but I won't be here for the fun and excitement and anticipation for this comeback, because I'm away >< If there's internet access, I will try, though :)

Saranghaja! 34k reads and nearly 1k votes, come on everyone c: Hehe! Hwaiting!
