Chapter 22

I look towards the nurse, "So what happens now?"

"She'll stay in recovery for 2-3 weeks and hopefully by then she will be able to be taken home."

I let out a loud breath. I still can't believe this happened. I look at Javin and our eyes meet.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" I ask him quietly.

He nods his head and gets up to walk outside of the room with me.

"I'm really sorry this happened Haley." He tells me right when we step outside.

"It's not your fault... it's not anyone's fault but that drunk."

"I know but I just feel like I should've been able to do something, like I could've prevented it from happening... you know?"

I understand exactly how he's feeling.

"Haley, I really like Jade. I keep thinking that maybe what happened with me and you was supposed to happen so that we could find other people we truly care about. You have Austin now, and if it's okay with you, I would like to ask Jade to be my girlfriend after all of this is over and she has recovered."

Maybe everything he is saying is true. Jade needs someone and I think Javin would be good for her.

"On one condition."

"Anything?" he replies.

"You will never do to her what you did to me that night."

"I swear it will never happen again." he promises me.

"Then I approve. You better ask her in a really cute way too."

"I'll have to start thinking about how to ask..." he says while smiling uncontrollably.

I turn to walk back into the room when he grabs my arm. I turn back and he mutters thank you to me. I nod and then open the door to Jade's room. I walk up to the bed and notice she is starting to mutter words.

"Jade!"

She starts to open her eyes slowly.

"Haley?" she murmurs.

"I'm right here Jade!"

"What happened Haley?" she begins to ask me.

"You were in a car accident but everything is going to be okay, you're going to be okay."

"My leg hurts a lot." she complains to me.

"You broke it in the accident."

"Ugh, I was going to play Xbox tonight." she whines.

"Jade! You just got out of an accident, can you go one night without thinking about video games!" I exclaim!

"But I just got the new Destiny game and I wanted to try it out..."

"Well it's going to be a little while before that happens." I tell her.

She starts to look around the room and catches the eye of Javin.

"Javin, is that you?" she asks while squinting her eyes.

"Yeah it's me Jade!" he tells her while walking next to her bed.

She asks him why he's there and they start to chat for a little while.

I walk up next to the bed and start to talk ," Sorry to interrupt but I need to run home real quick to drop my bags off and get changed. I'll be back soon okay?"

"No rush, I'm okay." she assures me and grabs Javin's hand.

Me and Austin begin to walk out of the room and we walk hand in hand out of the hospital.
