I woke up to the sound of the doorbell ringing. I glanced at the alarm clock by the bed which read ten o'clock. I hadn't slept in this long in months, it felt amazing. Liam was already out of bed so I guessed that he had gotten both Jack and Isla breakfast.
It had been two days since I had contacted my mother, I really hoped that she would come and visit.
I climbed out of bed and slipped on my fluffy dressing gown. It was so cosy. I exited my bedroom and headed for the front door, as I walked past the living room I saw that Jack was watching TV and Liam was changing Isla's diaper.
"Sorry baby," Liam called when he saw me. "I would have got the door but this little one was in the middle of weeing." I laughed at his response.
"It's okay. Thank you for letting me lie in."
I walked to the front door and opened it. Standing there was my mother. I was so shocked to see her.
"Riley," she smiled as she looked over my outfit. "You look beautiful."
"Mum..." I gasped.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she choked out.
I took a deep breath and whispered, "I forgive you."
Her eyes lit up happily at that. "Really?" I nodded.
"Who is it?" I heard Liam call from behind me. I looked towards his voice and saw him standing in the living room doorway with Isla in his arms.
"It my mum," I replied with a smile on my face.
Liam rushed over to us straight away with Jack following behind him. "I'm Liam," he introduced himself by reaching out a hand for my mother.
"I'm Sandra," she shook his hand. "It's good to meet you Liam." I watched as her eyes flickered to Isla and then down to Jack. "Hey Jack," she whispered.
"Hi Grammy," he muttered back, somehow he had remembered her in the last ten months.
"Now who's the gorgeous little girl?" she smiled at Isla.
"This is our baby, Isla," I told her. "She's only two months old."
"May I hold her?" Mum asked. I nodded and Liam handed over Isla. Liam then bent down to pick up Jack. "She looks so much like you Riley, so beautiful."
"Mummy why is there people in that car?" Jack suddenly asked. I looked over to the car and saw two figures sitting in side.
My mum froze. "Um..." she muttered. "They came with me. I've got to tell you something Riley."
"What Mum?" I asked.
"Your father and your brother are sitting in that car," she rushed out.
I was shocked by what she had said. Never in my life had I had a brother or even a father. She had told me that her and my father had broken up before I was born. "Seriously?"
"Yes seriously. I'm sorry I never told you. Your father and broke up before you were born and we had discussed how we would raise you and your brother, we both wanted each of you but we couldn't be together because he was going to college across the country and I was only sixteen. So we decided to keep one of you each. Then last summer after you left, we met each other again. I fell in love with him again, little did I know that he had been living in the next town over for ten years."
"I want to meet them," I said bluntly. She nodded and waved to the car.
Two very handsome but familiar men exited the car. I was shocked by who they were. The older man was Freddy's ex-stepdad Vince and his son Ben. The walked towards me and my family. I couldn't believe Vince was my father. Then I realised that I had kissed my stepbrother. Ew.
Mum took Vince's hand as soon as they stepped next to Mum who still held Isla in her arms. "This is your father Vince and twin brother Ben," Mum introduced us.
"I know who they are," I said looking at the two men. Mum looked a little confused when I told her this. I walked towards Ben first and hugged him tightly. "Why didn't you tell me?" I whispered in his ear.
"They didn't tell me that we were brother and sister until the other day, I just thought you were just Sandra's daughter, not my sister when we moved in. I can't believe we didn't know, we spent so many afternoons together and my house, Dad should have recognised you, you look so much like mum."
"I really should have," Vince commented. "I guess I never really thought much about it."
"You know this is all really weird." Liam suddenly commented.
Liam
"You know this is all really weird," I said, observing my wife and her family. Jack and I had been standing there quietly as they talked. It was nice hearing Riley reconnect to her family again. I knew she missed her mother but I never would have guessed that she had a brother.
"Oh sorry Liam, I forgot about you," she whispered.
"Thanks babe," I replied sarcastically, I understood that she had forgotten about me, she had just found out that she had a brother, her life was crazy.
"Ben, Vince-" she was cut off by Vince.
"Dad, Riley, I'm Dad to you."
"Okay," she nodded. "I'd like you to meet my husband, Liam."
They both shook my hand. "Nice to meet you," I smiled.
"This little guy," Riley pointed to Jack. "Is our son Jack."
"He's the father?" her mother questioned. "I can see that, they look so alike."
"No Mum, Liam isn't Jack's dad," Riley muttered.
"Oh," she sighed.
"And..." Riley smiled, she picked Isla out of her mother's arms. "This is our little girl Isla."
"Gorgeous," they both muttered.
"Would you like to come in?" I asked them. They all nodded and followed me inside. I dropped Jack on the floor and he went to play with his toys. Ben had wanted to hold Isla so Riley had handed her to him.
We spent the rest of the day talking and getting to know one another. It was great to see Riley in-teract with her family. I knew this is what she always wanted and finally she was able to get it.
Our little family wasn't so little anymore but it was easy to see the love between us all. I just hoped it would always be this good.
