Jack

I hadn't seen Avery in ten months and I missed her so much. I hated not seeing her on a daily basis, so I was crushed when I didn't get to see her at thanksgiving or at Christmas. I was glad that no one had mentioned her because I knew hearing her name would hurt even more.

This time apart had been the longest we'd ever not seen each other but I hoped that once I went to visit her these months apart would be nothing.

Our road trip had been set for next week, I just hoped that we were still going even after we promised each other that we'd go together. I couldn't wait for it, we had been dreaming of this trip since we were fifteen. So I really hoped it was going to happen.

I had only got back to college yesterday and I already wanted to go and see Avery. I wanted to get on our way, our for New York was booked for tomorrow morning. But I wanted to see her before then.

I climbed into the car I hadn't used in ten months and drove to Avery's house, I hoped that she was in. when I got there I stopped and looked at the house, nothing had changed, it was still the same simple house I had known for years.

I climbed out of the car and when up to the black front door and rang the bell. A few minutes later the door swung open. There she stood, my beautiful Avery. She looked the same, like time had paused when I went away and kept her from aging.

Her face broke out in a smile at the sight of me. Quickly she leaped into my arms and hugged me tightly. I missed the feel of her body against mine. "Hey baby," I whispered in her ear. "I missed you."

She pulled back from me a giggled lightly. "I missed you too. So what are you doing here?"

"Our road trip, you promised we'd do it no matter what."

"I know I did. Come in. Mom and Dad have missed you." We walked to the kitchen where her parents stand drinking coffee.

"Hey," I smiled at them; both her parents have a huge smile on their faces. I guessed they're happy to see me. "Sweetheart why don't you go and pack, you're staying over mine tonight so we can catch our early."

"Okay, I'm going." She rushed upstairs happily. I smiled at her parents.

"Come here Jack," Holly said opening her arms open for me. "I've missed you," she hugged me tightly. She pulled away holding my face, "That's the happiest I've seen her in eight months, so I want you to take care of her while you're away. Don't break her heart."

"I won't," I said worried that she hasn't been happy in eight months. I was now wondering what happened eight months ago. I wanted to know what broke her heart.

Holly turned away from me and mumbled to herself, "But you already have."

I'm confused by what she said, how have I broken her heart. I did everything she wanted.

Suddenly I felt a on my back, legs and arms wrapped tightly around me. I turned my head to find Avery's head next to mine, with a bright smile on her face, I could easily kiss those sweet lips. She didn't look heartbroken to me. She quickly pecked my cheek before jumping off my back. Immediately I felt the loss of her body around me.

"I've finished packing, I'm ready to go."

"Good lets go then," I smiled kissing her soft cheek.

"See you soon Mom! Dad! I'm going to miss you," she gave her parents two big hugs.

"Love you, darling," her mom kissed her happily.

I took her hand a dragged her out of the house to my car. "So how's college been?" she asked as soon as we were settled.

"It's been good, it had a lot of fun."

"Any girls?" she questioned.

"A couple," I told her truthfully. I didn't know why but that made me feel guilty. Those two girls I used to get over Avery but they didn't help until recently anyway.

"Oh right," she sighed.

"What about you?" I asked her curiously.

"Nah... no one for me," she giggled.

When we reach my home we headed straight to my bedroom after my parents. I put a movie in and settle back on my bed next to Avery. It felt like nothing had changed between us, that we were back to the way were before that weekend. I missed this with her.

As the movie went on Avery cuddled closer to me. Her head rested on my chest, one arm around my waist and a leg in-between mine. I loved being this way with her.

Soon she drifted off to sleep and I set an alarm for six in the morning.

We woke to the sound of my alarm blasting into my bedroom. I hated the freaking noise but a least it woke us up. "What's that noise?" Avery grumbled.

"The alarm, we've got to get up baby."

"Erg..." Avery complained sitting up. Her hair was a mess but it was cute on her, I loved seeing her like this, all rumpled.

"You can sleep on the plane, we have a six hour after all."

"You dick," she commented as she climbed out of bed in a grump. I was so glad that I knew she was joking when she called me that, I knew she hated early mornings.

After our six hour flight we landed in New York. It was amazing.

"I can't believe we're here," Avery smiled as we stood in the centre of Times Square.

"Me neither," I wrapped an arm around her as we watched the crowd pass us.

"I'm so glad that you're here," she told me snuggling closer to me.

"Let's check in at and have some dinner."

"Okay," she nodded with a beautiful smile on her face.

We headed for dinner around seven in the evening, the was beautiful with it large rooms and fancy decorating. Our bedroom had a queen-sized bed and a large bath for two. It was amazing.

"So what's been going on with you recently?" Avery asked as a plate of food was sat down in front of us. We hadn't really talked on the flight here because Avery fell asleep as soon as we took off and didn't wake for a while.

"I've been extremely busy with finals and everything. I was so glad to be home and going on this trip with you." A thought suddenly popped into my head, I was going to try and get what broke her heart out of her. "So what about you?"

"Oh you know how it was; the SATs and everything, I'm so glad they're over now. I can wait to join you at college it's going to be so much fun."

"Yeah I can't wait either. We're going to have so much fun. So did you have a boyfriend or anything this year?" I asked wanting to know if he was the one to break her heart.

"No, I don't I haven't met anyone I like plus I've been too busy. What about you was one of those girls your girlfriend?"

I don't know whether to tell her the truth or not. "Sort of, well one of them anyway, we started dating recently and I'm not sure if I want to commit to her just jet."

"So you've done stuff with her?"

"What like sex? No not with her but this other girl I did. I was a mistake though, I was way to drunk when it happened. But now have this rule."

"What's the rule?" she asked.

"Well I have to abstain from sex until I'm in a committed relationship."

"Oh right. So I guess you're going to have sex with that girl soon."

"Maybe, I don't know right now."
