You and Me (Sequel to Back to You)

Chapter 18

Once they arrived in Venice and they got settled, Peter went and bought the necklace for Caroline. As he left, he ran into Caroline and started walking with her.

"So what are you looking most forward to?" Peter asked.

"Um, probably riding the boats around Venice. I can't wait for the Eiffel Tower though."

"Me too. I think Paris will be really nice."

As they walked down the street, they saw that the waves were getting rougher and stronger. Caroline bent down to get a better picture when Peter noticed something up with the drain.

"Um Caroline-" 

But before he could finish his sentence, a huge water monster formed and began causing destruction.

"Caroline, Peter!" Ned yelled as him, MJ and Harry ran up to them.

"Get everyone out of here." Caroline said to them.

"Where's your suits?" Harry asked.

"I didn't bring mine." Caroline said.

"And mine's in the hotel room." Peter added.

"Why don't you have it?" Ned screamed in a whisper.

"Well it's not like I planned fight anyone or a giant water monster on my VACATION!" Caroline whispered back loudly.

Harry, Ned and MJ ran to get everyone they could out of harms way. Peter put his webshooters on and tried to web it but failed.

"Did you really think that would work? You just tried to web water!" Caroline said.

"Well what's your idea?" Peter asked.

They saw that the monster was going towards the civilians and ran over to them to get everyone out of the way. In the process though, they were blasted with water and pushed against the bridge. Before they could react, a trail of green smoke appeared and someone started shooting green blasts of energy towards the monster. Peter and Caroline looked around and saw some masks and grabbed them. Peter swung up to the top of a building and Caroline flew up there.

"Hi! We can help. Um, I'm super strong and she can zap things."

"Alright kids. Just try to keep it from gaining more power or from getting too close to civilians."

The water monster hit one of the towers and Peter and Caroline swung and flew over to it. Peter webbed the building next to it and the tower and began pulling to hold it up. However, he slipped and began sliding forward.

"Peter you're-" but before Caroline could warn him, he hit the bell. As he got up, Caroline began to warn him again but was unable to and he hit the bell again. He continued holding the building up and once the monster was destroyed, he let the tower go and it fell.

Once they got back to the hotel, they were standing around the tv watching the news when the new hero came on.

"Who is that guy?" Ned asked as he and Betty stood next to each other.

"I don't know but he's not as cool as Spider-Man." Flash said.

"What is it with you and your obsession with Spider-Man?" MJ asked.

"I'm not obsessed. He's just a good hero. Plus his partner Blue Electric is pretty hot."

"How would you know? You don't know what she looks like." Caroline asked.

"Yeah whatever. You're just jealous."

"Whatever. I'm going up to my room. MJ you coming?"

As they walked into their room, MJ was looking at her book when she fell to the ground, a tranquilizer dart in her neck.

"You know, it's not nice to ghost someone. Especially me. And you know that Ms. Stark."

"Hi Fury."

"That's Director Fury. Come on, we have to get the other kid."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. I'm on vacation. I want to take a break from crime fighting."

"Yeah well we need you and Parker so get your butt and come on."

The two went to Peter's room and waited for him. Once he walked in and Fury tranquilized Ned, Fury told Peter and Caroline to follow him. Once they got to the underground base, Fury introduced them to the new hero.

"This is Quentin Beck. He's from Earth, but not this one."

"So the multiverse is real? That's so cool."

As the two were briefed on the Elementals and what they had to do to stop them, Caroline began getting an off feeling about the situation.

"I don't know. Something just kind of doesn't add up."

"I know it's crazy. I mean we used to dream about this stuff and it was just myths. But now it's real. I mean we study Thor in our physics class!" Peter said excitedly.

"No, it's not that. Something else is fishy. And no one else could do this job?" Caroline asked Fury.

"Nope."

"Thor?"

"Off world."

"Dr. Strange?"

"Unavailable."

"Captain Marvel?"

"Don't invoke her name."

"Guys, this all sounds great but I just want to enjoy my vacation. Spend time with my friends and someone else." Peter said, his cheeks getting a dusty pink.

"Plus I don't have a suit." Caroline added, her arms crossed.

"And I don't want to go out in this costume because my classmates will catch on."

"Oh we got that covered."

"Sorry Fury. I think I speak for both of us when I say no." Peter said.

"Fine. Alright Dimitri, take them back to their hotel please. But before you go, Stark wanted you to have these." Fury said, handing Peter a case.

As they walked out, Beck grabbed Caroline and pulled her to him.

"Stay out of my business kid. This is your only warning." And with that, he pushed Caroline by the arm and walked away.

Caroline walked out towards the boat, scared not only for herself but for Peter and the rest of her friends.
