“Mama, I got an 89 in our first quarter." Aren't you proud of me? ”

“Proud? I'll be proud of you if you make it to 95! ”

“ 'Ma, I was picked to represent a contest.”

“Back out! That is just a waste of money. ”

“Tomorrow is the homeroom PTA meeting. You should at least attend 'Ma or else I will be marked as absent.”

“Tell your teacher that I am busy!”

“Ma, I have good news!”

“What is it?”

“I got 93!”

 “What? 95, I said!You should study more! ”

“Hey! What a loser, still second eh? ”

“Wait 'til I replace your place. I am the best! "”

“Dream on, girl!”

“M-mama, I got 90”

“Don't talk to me dumb, unless you've got 95.”

“You lose weight.”

 “Your face looks so tired.”

“Any updates?”

“I studied so well 'Ma, don't worry, I did my best.”

“'Ma, we have an outing with my classmates. Can I go with them? ”

“You? Study. ”

“Mama, why can't you be proud of me?”

“I don't have a failed daughter.”

“But I did my best.”

“And your best is not enough.”

“Be the top one in your class, then I will be proud of you.”

“You understand? You should always study. Study. Study. Study. ”

“Boost your confidence, dumb! Don't degrade our family's name! ”

“Ma, I'm tired. Please wake up! I am not a fuckin' robot! I am tired! ”

I'm tired of proving that I am the best

I'm tired of being your slave.

I'm tired of my daily life.

I'm tired of all this shit.

I'm tired because I am a human too.

And today, as I go to school with my eyebags, dark circles, and tired body, I still manage to smile. My spirit is willing to attend class, but my flesh overpowers me. And with every step I take, many unfinished thoughts clutter my mind. Depression, as they commonly say, you don't understand until you yourself suffer from it. Anxiety and demands.

What my mother demands makes me a victim of depression and anxiety. Added by the judgements of society.

I smile. I laughed.

But deep within, I'm thinking of taking my own life.

As I realised from the very first start, our generation today doesn't go to school for us to learn.

School is now all about passing, and not learning.
