I just finished getting ready for school and it's time for breakfast. Holding the knob, I glance at my reflection at the full body size mirror I have behind my door. I lean to look at my face and there was something about today that I couldn't help but smile, it wasn't even my birthday or Jacob's or my dad.
I just shrugged my shoulders, maybe it was because I got enough sleep last night that's got me to a good mood today. Finally twisting the knob and pulling it open, I saw my brother walk out of his room as well.
"Good Morning." I greeted him with a huge grin on my face. He narrowed his eyes at me, looking at me weirdly as he tries to fix his tie.
"What's up with you?" He asks.
"Isn't it a wonderful day today." I said as I close my door behind me and skip my way down the stairs, still smiling.
Dad is already sitting by the dining table with his eyeglasses placed at the bridge of his nose as he reads his newspaper.
"Good Morning." I greeted with all smiles as I entered the kitchen. I sit down at my usual chair on his right just next to him. I take in the smell of my breakfast already served on my plate. "Yummy!"
Dad peeks towards me with a raised brow as he flips onto a new page. "What's up with you?" He asks.
"Same question." Jacob just entered the kitchen. He takes his seat opposite from me with also breakfast already served on his plate. He takes some ketchup and splattered it all over his scrambled eggs. I roll my eyes at them both, such mood poopers.
"Is it bad to be happy?" Taking the ketchup out of his hand before he could finish using it.
"Hey!" He protested. I only stick my tongue out at him.
"You're just too happy today." Dad said folding his paper and setting it down next to his almost finished breakfast.
I shrug my shoulder. "I just feel like it." I begin to eat the eggs dad made for breakfast.
"You know, sometimes when people tend to feel too happy, something bad usually happens." Jacob biting the toast as he looks at me. I give him a knowing look. "I'm just saying." He leans back to his chair still eating his toast.
"Maybe you'll get fired." I said smirking as I beat him to his game.
"Maybe you'll fall from the stage at practice today or maybe you'll never get the lead as you always wanted." I made an 'o' expression from his comeback.
"How dare you!" I point my fork towards him annoyed. "Take that back!" I demanded.
"Absolutely not." He points his fork as I did and we started to have a fork-sword fight in front of the table.
"Stop it!" Dad commanded slamming his hand on the table, we both stop immediately. "You're both are not kids anymore..." he looks at me then to Jacob. "So stop acting like one."
"She started it." Jacob pointing the fork again towards me like he's a kid being scolded. I only stick my tongue out to him to annoy him more.
"I said stop it." Dad snaps his head towards me and I instantly look down at my food. "What am I going to do with you two?" He rubs his temples in a circular frustrated motion. "If only your mother is here, she would have done a much better job at this. She would've...."
Jacob and I both know that when Dad starts to mumble about how mom would have done better, it's our cue to leave.
Jacob beat me to it, he stood up first taking a toast with him. "I remember I have an early meeting with my boss today. Bye, dad." He pushes his seat back and heads towards the main door. He didn't wait for dad to answer before going out.
