Chapter Sixteen
The coffee was much needed at this point. I woke up early, even by nightly standards, as did Jerick, Chey, and Tina. The other wolves were still sound asleep. I wish I could be like them. Just lounging around and not being bothered by anything in the world. Then you have me, an antisocial no-life vampire that can't go out into the sun.
Luckily for me, most of the pack that associate with me adjusted their sleeping schedules so I wouldn't be alone at night. Jerick was the first to make that change. We all sat on the back deck of the sanctuary, drinking nightly coffee and watching the starry sky.
I was busy making out the constellations, while Jerick sat vigorously tapping on his phone screen. Chey was holding her partner's hand and maintaining a steady conversation. I sighed a deep breath, which caused Jerick to shoot a quick, steady glance in my general direction.
"What's wrong?" He asked, setting his phone back down on the glass table. "You seem a little upset, everything okay?" He took my hand and gently rubbed his fingers along my palms.
"Of course!" I ushered steadily. "Believe it or not, this is the first time I've actually been outside since I've been here with you guys". My mate raised a quick eyebrow, scanning my face for a clue to see if I was lying. I indeed wasn't lying, at all. Sad... right?
"You've gotta be kidding me". Jerick deadpanned, staring at me straight in the eyes. "All this time, and you haven't been outside? Not even one time?"
"Bitch!" Chey shouted, causing a small, sudden gasp to erupt from me. "You haven't been outside at all while you were here?!" I shook my head honestly, and looked down at my rippled reflection in the warped glass pattern on the table.
"Hmm", Tina mumbled quietly. She turned to whisper into Cheyanne's ear. They conversed quietly for a second. I didn't have super hearing, so they definitely took advantage of their superior senses over me as much as they could.
"Say... Jerick and Xander", Chey mischievously countered, turning her head back to our general direction. "Would you be interested in going for a run around the forest with us?"
My stomach dropped. EXERCISE...
I wasn't physically fit at all. If a wind gust came through here, I'd be sailing through the sky like a kite, no joke. "I hope y'all realize that I can't run worth the shit compared to everyone else here".
"Well duh", Jerick snorted in little arrogance. "That's why I'm carrying you on my back while we run. There's no way you'd keep up with us anyway".
"Pfft", I murmured. "Way to rub it in, douche-pickle".
The small innuendo forced a small chuckle from my boyfriend, but Tina and Chey remained silent. Though, Chey was carrying a small devious smirk across her lips.
"Awww", Chey mischievously erupted arrogantly. "You're carrying him around? I always wanted to know when you two would do bareback"...
The sip that I was originally taking from my coffee went everywhere on the table as I sputtered all over the place. Jerick didn't smile or laugh. He raised a serious eyebrow and maintained his smoldering gaze at them two.
"Funny", he quietly grumbled as serious as he could. "We already did that a couple nights ago, anyway". Then he lost his seriousness and was next me on the floor, cackling with laughter.
