Chapter Twenty Nine
"Łachłan?" I hesitated to say into the dark void of the room. "Łachłan... is it really... you?" The faint sound of a bell could be heard going off in my head; ding ding ding.
"Intelligent little creature... who happened to have almost killed me," they silently evilly sputtered into my ears. I couldn't see them, but I could feel them all over. "You fooled me once, but you can't fool me twice." Their voice became more distant, and hesitant. The heels of boots clicked on the timber planks of the floor. The light switch was flipped on.
Łachłan stood in a posh posture, with their arms crossed. They looked exactly like the day that we fought, and I won for the time being. "We need to have a talk," they said again, pulling up a chair, and sitting with legs crossed around the spine of the chair. "This... is rather serious, Xander."
"Look, Jerick is pregnant, and we have a kid on the way in a short time... please don't think of killing me," I pleaded to them. Łachłan's face remained stone cold; their jaw clenched, then eased again. "I know that, and no, I'm not killing you. I'm not your enemy, Xander. I'm here to warn you about the near future," they said, resting their head on the back of the chair. "I'm not your enemy, Xander. Not anymore, at least. We both have something watching us, every step of the way. Telling you this could get me executed, if I'm not careful."
I leaned closer to their face. It was a serious expression, so I gave in a little bit. "I'm listening, but make this quick," I deadpanned. "I put Jerick to bed, and I promised I'd be back to cuddle with him." Łachłan rolled their eyes, and continued their rambling.
"It's after you, Xander," they finally said. My eyes grew slightly wide. "What is?" I asked.
"Nobody knows, not even I do," they exclaimed, and put a dramatic hand to their chest. "Xander, be serious here. You have time to prepare, and get ready; a war is coming. Lots of death, sadness, and destruction. Time... is running out for us all. The Realm is coming for you, and I, Xander. We possess a power that is considered vital to its forever hunger."
My eyes grew even more wide. My god... they're actually serious. What do we do? No, what do I do? "W-what's going to happen, Łachłan?" I nervously added. My heartbeat accelerated to an even faster pace. They shook their head in defiance to my loaded question.
"I can't get into too many details. Just know, that it's coming, and so is The Realm. Take care of Jerick, your family, and your friends. You'll need them in the long run. I'll be here, but I won't be 'here'. Goodbye, Xander. My time has fallen short." Łachłan squeezed their chest, as tears began to fall from their saddened eyes. Their skin began to flake apart, as did their clothing. A golden object fell from the pocket of their long cloak.
I too found myself enveloped in sadness. They were sharing their sorrows, and pains with my own. The flakes of skin, clothing, and bone floated out of the cracked window in the corner of the room. I gathered my strength, and looked at the sunrise; it was where Łachłan was going. To the sun, with Bram.
I picked up the golden object, and studied it, before putting it in my pocket. I cracked the door open, to find that everything was as if nothing had ever happened. Chey and Tina were having the same conversation; the rest of the pack kept their eyes on the same television program as before. I wiped the tears from my blurred and tired eyes. Cheyanne was tipsy from the shots that she had taken. The Jose Cuervo bottle was now empty.
