"Hey, Sophie? Can you please come down?" I called my 2 year old daughter.

Soon I heard her rushing down the stairs.

"Daddy said he wanted to talk to you. "
Her smile lit up.

"Hi, Daddy!"
"Hey, Soph! How's everyone doing? Are you helping mommy?"
"Everyone is good! And yes! When are you coming home?"
"I'll be home soon, okay? After this tour I'll be home for a while."
"Yay! I miss you,  dad!"
"I miss you too, Soph, but I'll see you soon."
"Okay, do you want to talk to mommy?"
"Yes, please.  I love you!"
"I love you too! Bye, daddy!"

Sophie handed me the phone and ran back up to her room.

"Be careful, Sophie!" I told her.

"Hey, Shawn."
"Hey, Helly. My manager said that after today I have a couple years to stay home and write."
"Aw, I'm so excited."
"Me too. I have to go. I miss you so much."
"I miss you so much too. Have fun, muffin."
I smiled as he hang up.

He'll be home soon.

"Okay, Sophie, come on. We have to go pick up daddy."
Sophie quickly put her shoes on and ran outside.

I locked the door and opened the car door for her. She put her seatbelt on and I got into the driver seat, putting my seatbelt on.

"You ready, Soph?" I looked at her in the rear mirror. She nodded her head, a big smile on her face.

"Sophie! Helly!" I heard someone yell behind us. We were waiting at the airport for Shawn.

I turned around and was engulfed in a hug. I felt Sophie hugging our legs.

"I missed you so much." I cried into his shoulder.
He let go of me and picked up Sophie.

"Hi, daddy!"
"Hey, bubbles." he smiled.

We drove home and later that evening, Shawn asked if he could talk to me

I tucked Sophie into bed and walked into my and Shawn's bedroom.

"Okay, so I was thinking that since I'm not going to be touring for a while, we should have a second child?"
"Do you think we're ready?" I ask.
He nodded.

For the next week, I've been feeling a bit sick, but it was expected.

I decided to surprise Sophie with the news, as Shawn already knows.

"Okay, Sophie, we wanted to give you this."i said, handing her a shirt.

"What is it?"
"You're going to be a big sister!" Shawn smiled.
"What does that mean?"
"Well, you know how it's only been you, me, and mommy? Well, there's going to be another person in our house!"
"Oh, can we play with the person?"
"Of course!"
Her face lit up and she smiled.

9 months later, our second child, Jack Christopher Mendes, was born.

"He's so beautiful." I smiled.
Shawn kissed me on the forehead.

"Can I hold him?" Sophie asked excitedly.
Shawn chuckled and told her how to hold him.

I watched in awe at the cute sight.

I'm so lucky to have the family I have.
